Rating: Summary: The World That's Not So Secret Anymore Review: The world that Alice lived is not that unknown now a days. Through extensive living and writings of this underworld, it not so secret anymore. Alice had no perticular effect upon me nor did it grant me any understanding into the workings of the human mind. The diary gave me the same amount of insight that any amount of teen anxiety poetry. I beleive the only things that i truly learned is some first-person on descriptions of what trips are really like.My biggest problem with this book is how the trips and the stonings are described really great with a rush on the after affects. Being a teenager she tries to avoid the problems and usually try to pretend they don't happen. The more focused problems she has is her trying to fit into a society where neither the "squares" nor "the grass gang" accept her. She is complty focused on trying to fit in and be left alone. I think that the book is a good source of literature to get the feel of the "my body and i can do whatever i want with it" revoltion. Other than that it grants no more insight then a teen book on love and realtionships and a High school Health class.
Rating: Summary: A Great Look into a Drug Addicts Life Review: After having read Go Ask Alice I can now safely say that I know how drug users think and act. You can see all of the things that happen on T.V. but think its not real. This book is an actual diary of a drug user. It gives the reader the full aspect of drugs and drug addiction. Some parts of this book can be really gross and inappropriate, but at other parts, it can be really informative and helps you understand the effects of drugs. The man character is put into certain situations that teens of today face everyday. It also gives the reader a look into the mind of a drug user and how they feel and act. When the character was using drugs, she tells what she is feeling and how she reacts to these certain things. This book might help a drug user to stop after they see what happens to a teen after a couple of uses. It could also help kids who are thinking about using, to not even try it in the first place. Even though this book is mainly about a woman, it does show how men can be effected by the use of drugs. When a character in the story uses drugs, he rapes the woman who wrote this diary. He is greatly effected after this because now he could have impregnated her without even thinking about it. This could make you think before you act. Some people may say that this book is extremely inappropriate and gross, but I feel that it was a great thing to publish because it really helped me to understand what the usage of drugs can and will do to your thinking and your reactions to certain stimulants. It really was a great read and I recommend it to people of all ages.
Rating: Summary: A Great Look inside teens lives Review: I think that "Go Ask Alice" is a great look inside a teenager's life, and the problems they face each day. Like weather or not to use drugs, if you need to lose weight, if someone likes you or not, weather or not to sleep with someone. This is a perfect book that shows you what an everyday average teenager has to face in their daily lives. This also shows you how much kids get picked on by other kids because of what they look like, how they dress, how they speak and act, this shows one girls struggle with these same problems and how she dealt with them. This shows how the main character dealt with these everyday problems, and I would recommend this book to any teenager growing up that deals with these problems in there everyday life. When the main character is faced with peer pressure and if to use drugs or not she buckles under the pressure and does drugs on more than once, and it also tells what she went threw when she stopped using the drugs and went clean and how it totally messed up the way she ate and slept and acted. When she had her battle with her weight also shows what women go threw to look like what everyone else wants them to look like and the struggles she went threw to look like what everyone wanted her to look like. I would recommend this to any person growing up today

Rating: Summary: Easy reading, very interesting Review: This book was given to me as a school reading assignment, I think it's the first book that I've read through this year in school without my primary intention being just to finish it so I could get an A on the test. The book is actually the diary of a teenage girl. It is written in a way that makes it very easy reading, and interesting at the same time. Go Ask Alice is a day by day journal of a normal girl, who get's started on drugs with her "new friends". The message in the story is in one way another simple "don't do drugs" type of thing, but the approach is very unique, and causes the story to catch your attention. I read through this book saying to myself at the end of every day "I wonder what happens tomorrow..."
Rating: Summary: "Go Ask Alice" a real eye opener Review: I found Go Ask Alice to be a realistic view into an average teens life that was turned upside down by drug abuse. Written in the form of a diary, I felt I could relate to the teenage girl writing her story. Through out the story, the narrator delves deeper into the disturbing world of drug abuse. Reading her story made me realize that her story could happen to anyone. At the start she is a carefree teen, and by the end she is institutionalized because of her drug abuse. I cannot say I enjoyed the book, because the content was both upseting and disturbing to me, but I found it to to be an excellent book, and a real eye opener to the world of drug abuse.

Rating: Summary: The world on drugs Review: This book efected my life deeply. Iam a teenage drug user and I can relate to her. When I was reading the book it felt like it was my diary and it was happening to me. Its so true about how she says that once you use drugs there isnt life with out it. She made alot of stupid mistakes but so does everybody and she was really trying. The ending made such an impact on my life forever. I now keep a diary. You know how she wanted to be a councler or whatever so she could help young people. Well she really helped me see life from diffrent perspectives. It was like she was listing to me .Like she was a conculer telling me about her life. I wonder if it was a real diary. I hope it was. The girl had so much potentail but you dont really understand the book until you've done the things shes done. Im reading some of your reviews and your saying she did drugs to fit in. Well she didnt. She did it once by accident and realized how incredibal it was and then she got hooked. I recomend this book for people who have never tried drugs to read this so you know what life is like outside your little happy prissy world. You dont know what its like to run away and be hungry. To go to sleep at night with a hungry stomach and since you have never experianced it you can read about it. And not be so up tight about people that use drugs. I aslo recomend it for people that use drugs or have been on the streets because its like ,I dont know how to explain it but its like some ones going through what you are and is listening .I cant really explain youll have to read and find out.
Rating: Summary: Go Ask Alice is Great Review: As a teenager reading isn't all that interesting to me and many stories are hard for me to relate to. But Go Ask Alice I immiditly connected with the main character. Not that I am on drugs but gowing up in 2001 its impossible to not know someone one who is. You get caught up in her troubles and cycle of bad decisions and can't put it down. I would recomend this story to every teenager and their parents, they just might get a new understanding of life in high school and all the pressures that go with it.
Rating: Summary: It was Great Review: I read the book "Go Ask Alice", I found this book to be interesting and informative of the things that were going around in the time of the story. It is hard to say what type of person would like this book. Some parts would make a man uncomfortable and others to sexually intense for most women to take. This book has its ups and downs. The character in this book, Alice, starts out as a normal girl with a good family life and changes into a drug trying to coup with the pressures put on her to stop and keep using. This book is not for the type of person who likes a pleasant and resolved ending. In this book Alice dies of a drug overdose three weeks after she chooses to stop writing in a journal. She explains that journals are for children that have know one to tell things and that she is getting to old for that. But as you learn in this book a lot of things can happen in three weeks and by her mood altering personality she could have gone into a complete depression in three weeks. Also, it does not mention why she decided to use drugs again or if it was an intentional or accidental overdose. All you know is that she died and that is not something fairy tale readers want to read about. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy learning new things and learning about an alternative life style. This journal that Alice wrote is a real journal that a real drug addict wrote, and it doesn't hold back at all. It shows how a sweet young girl like Alice could change into a drug driven person that longed for sex and freedom from her surroundings. Many can relate to the freedom but most are compelled at how she had no regard for her own body in the middle of the book. I also recommend this book to teenagers and adults, the reading is easy enough for a middle school child to read but the content is either to hard for the reader to grasp or to provocative. I would personally never allow a grade school child to read this and I don't persuade anyone else to. I do recommend high school students to read it in hope that they will gain knowledge and fear of the often drowned out intense life of a drug addict. I do think that this book should be mandatory to read in 9th grade, because of the way it makes you look at experimenting with acid, uppers and other drugs in a whole new light. I have found reading this diary of a young teenage drug addict stimulating to the mind and visually pleasing. In many ways you see parts of your self in Alice; her insecurities, her need for human affection and her long for a peaceful yet at the same time exciting way of living. You at first doubt that you could be anything like this person of unadulterated pleasure. But then you come to realize that you could be this person, that it only takes the right drug at the right time to get you hooked and wanting more at any cost, even your life. And so you come to realize that this person you were reading of was not scary or even evil but wrong in her actions, (which we all are wrong in our actions every day.) You also come to understand that you are just as blesses in many ways as Alice is. You come to see that you are very fortunate to have all you have and all the things you weren't cursed with. I realized that I don't have friends that will slip me drugs without knowing, I also am not a bold as to leave my family in search of a dream that is more of a nightmare. And so you learn many things in this book, not only do you understand the mind of a drug addict but you learn how to be grateful for what you have and what you are lucky enough not to have. And so I conclude to say that if you are at an age and you can take such sadness this book is an educational experience which will never leave you. This book will teach you of things that you hear of in magazines and on the 11:00 news. If you are opened minded as to why people do things that they shouldn't do or willing to understand why someone you may know does such things, read "Go Ask Alice." You will leave more opened minded and more alert as to your surroundings, so that you can have a better view on things you may have never know off before. I think if your are willing, there is something for just about anyone in this book. I personally loved it.
