Rating: Summary: Very touching Review: This is the only book - even if small sized - in recent years that I finished in one afternoon : could not put it down ! Very engaging, touching. Another recent reviewer raised question about the authenticity of the book based on copyright notice " "Go Ask Alice taken from White Rabbit written by Grace Slick...'. I think that is about the title of the book, not the actual content. 'Go Ask Alice' was a popular song charactersing the turbulent 60's.
Rating: Summary: A remarkable work of mis-information! Review: I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to explore the popular fiction spread by the anti-drug warriors. Go Ask Alice is not only well written but compelling in its fanciful denouncement of drugs. If all things were equal this book would be at least a cautionary tale of drug abuse... as it is it has become a tome of reference for the would be drug czars here in US. It is FICTION and has been routinely denounced by drug opponents and proponents alike. Straight and narrow folks still trip across this book from time to time and swear by it as fact without doing the proper background check. As most intelligent adults know the "drug fiends" of the 60s (and of any era) are largely fictionalized and no more so than in the over the top presentation accomplished by this book. In the end Go Ask Alice stacks up as little more than a print edition of "Reefer Madness"... its printing should almost be subsidized by the government.
Rating: Summary: Go Ask Alice Review: While the story line is not bad, I found it hard to believe a 15 year old girl wrote this diary because of the complex vocabulary usage. Also take note in the front of the book "Go Ask Alice taken from White Rabbit written by Grace Slick Copyright 1967, Irving Music & Copper penny Music. The book is a very good lesson pertaining to the drug world but parents of middle/jr high school kids should be cautioned to the strong sexual references. Parents, you should read this book but also be aware that it is available in most school libraries!
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Book! Review: GO ASK ALICE was a surprising eye-opener to read. The book tugs at the heart strings of the reader as they endure everything that "Alice" does as she fumbles through her adolescence. When you read this, don't be surprised when you find yourself laughing and crying with "Alice", and mentally screaming at her to make the right choices in life. This book is written in the format of a diary, which gives it a unique perspective. It follows the teen life of a fifteen year old introverted girl. The reader watches from the side-lines as "Alice" becomes mixed up in the confusing as well as tempting world of drugs and sex. Although this may seem to not be a good topic, the book, although it claims not to, has a message statement. At the end, it is clear that the book is speaking out AGAINST these activities. This a great book -- worth your time. Also recommended: THE LOSERS' CLUB by Richard Perez
Rating: Summary: It is more than a daily. Review: "Go ask Alice" is an interesting story which everybody should read it especially, teenager and their parents. It is more than entertainment but also give some lesson. Alice is a 15 years old girl who has daily life as the another teenager. She needs love, beloved and understanding from her family and friends. Everything in her life seems to be normal but it changes when she takes drug by accidentally. When I finished reading, I was very sad about her fate. I do not think that a 15 years olds girl had to use drug, sell them for exciting and following her friends' behavior. Moreover, this story realizes me that nobody can protect the teenager from drug and the evil circumstance. Maybe their parents and friends can be the good model and give them advice for solving the problem. I think that parents have to consider their children behavior, listen their problem and try to help them. Alice said her parents do not pay much attention to her. Consequently, she fined the way out by herself which leads to the unpredictable ending. Their friends will easily influence young people attitude and behavior. Alice was aroused by her friends try to use drug and became drug addicted. Although she knew that it is not good, she wanted to try it. One time to try drug can change her life. Therefore, I wonder how other teenagers can go through the obstacle in their life without using drug. There is not the exactly answer for drug problem. However, I think when you read this story, you will find the effective solution for solving the problem. Hopefully, "Go ask Alice" will help teenager go away from drug and more understand the them.
Rating: Summary: Essential... Review: This is one of the best, yet most disturbing books you may ever read. It shows a true insight into the drug scene, and the bad side that some unfortunate individuals come ito contact with. One of the reviewers on here says that the book glamourises drugs. He should read the book and try to understand it this time. This book does not glamourise drugs; if thats what you are after read Hunter S. Thompson's 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'. Go ask Alice cannot be seen as a book that glamourises drugs OR condemns them, as this is not fiction, it is real, and at many points in the book she does both, but truly she hates them. This book may make you cry, and it may sicken you to the bone at some points, but I feel it is necessary reading for youngsters to prevent drug use, and for adults and parents to understand, because most do not. On the back of my copy it says the book is frightening. It is.
Rating: Summary: The most life-changing book in the world. Review: This book has seriously changed my life. I urge you to get any copy of it anywhere--get a cheap secondhand copy off this site, or go to a library--and read it really slowly. This book has convinced me how awful drugs are and I am certain I will never ever try them. READ THIS BOOK! Please!
Rating: Summary: A shockingly new and fresh style of book Review: The most haunting and one of the best books I've read. Almost all books, if they mention drugs, the author has never experienced drugs. This book sends a shiver up my spine because of the stark reality of it. You can tell she's telling the whole truth, at least as much of it as she can see. You feel like screaming "No! Stop it! You're ruining your life, can't you see that?" For those who say this is fake, no one can fake that. Only someone who's experienced it can. I doubt I will ever try drugs after reading this book.
Rating: Summary: The most life-changing book in the world. Review: This book has changed the entire way I look at my life. This book will make you rethink every wrong choice you're considering. Especially if you are a teenager, please, please get this book! If everyone read this, the world would be a better place. I URGE YOU TO GET AT LEAST A CHEAP COPY OF THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY, OR BORROW IT FROM THE LIBRARY.
Rating: Summary: Alice doesn't have answers Review: Go Ask Alice is a story of a fifteen year-old girl's struggle with the world of drugs. This book is a real story, a real diary, and a real girl. She is a normal in the beginning, but when she goes to visit her grandparents, everything changes. She is invited to a party, and gets addicted to acid. She is hooked into a whirlwind of drugs and alcohol. She falls for a guy who can get her pot, and LSD. She trys to free herself of drugs, and runs away with a friend to start over. She starts anew in California, running a boutique. She cracks though, just before Christmas , and goes home. But the drugs never go away. You need to read this book to understand what a teenagers life is like, and could be like. This book is depressing, but truthful. Go Ask Alice creates a window to a life that you would never want to have.
