Summary: So good, I recommended them to my daughter, age 11!
Review: I read this book when I was a child. It always stuck in my mind. For years when I was older, I couldn't even remember the title, but I could remember the story as if I had just read it. Now I have children of my own. My daughter brought a book home one day and the author was Madeleine L'Engle. I could not remember why that name sounded so familliar to me. On the bottom of the book cover was the statement: Author of A Wrinkle in Time! Memories came flooding back again! These are indeed great books and I will encourage my children to read all of them!

Summary: One of the best books ever!
Review: I read this book as an adult of 34. The book had me totally captivated... I could not and would not put it down until I finished. This is a must for all kids (and adults).

Review: I thought the book was fun....perfect!

Summary: L'Engle's huge web begins!
Review: This book is so great, that even when it's over, you HAVE to read the others, just to find out what happens next! Next in line is "A Wind in the Door" and the you should read "A Swiftly Tilting Planet", and if you're really interested, read "Many Waters". Meg Murray is so real, you just sort of connect with her. Even though I would not recommend any Madeleine L'Engle books to light readers, They are the best!

Review: Read this book. I read in two days - on vacation! I was so absorbed in the wondrfull description of the charactors. Most wondrously and totaly intriuging. I love the book! You will to! I reccomend this book is every bit as much enjoyable as any book you could ever name. It's fantastic! If I was in your soxs and hadn't read this book, well, buy it right away, order immediately! Buy it!

Summary: Pro Christian Anti Statist/Communist Red Scare Propaganda!
Review: L'Engle writes a somewhat interesting sci-fi plot that would probably make a good cartoon. Despite the many allusions in the book that I found confusing sometimes, it was fairly easy to read.

It may have been written for children, but the symbolism, metaphors, and deep rooted message are more palpable for adults cognizant of the cold war period after WWII when the book was released. Camasotz reminded me of the sterotypical cold, rigid, authoritarian Soviet regime demonized as public enemy number one for the West up until its Glasnost/Perestroika of the 1980's.

I did not have a problem with this simple anti-statist theme, except for the solution L'Engle espouses: Love. I felt like I had really wasted my time reading 200+ pages to finally get to the author's trite point that "love conquers all" - apparently in this case the monsterous creature running Camasotz. My urge was to draw a large cross on the page. It is ironic that the West did not employ L'Engle'! s suggestion in conquering the red menace of the 20th century.

My favorite chapter of the book: The Transparent Column. Here L'Engle deftly displays the possessed Charles Wallace and Meg's entrapped father. The dialog in the last few chapters improves somewhat and the quasi-centaur like creatures chapter had some positive spiritual elements that I liked. It was a good attack on the Ayn Randian objectivist camp!

Overall, I felt like the book was barely worth my time to read. Looking back I liked some parts of it like most stories whether movies, plays, books, etc. Unlike the rest of the reviews, this title did not 'blow me away' because of the let down in the end. I do however reccommend reading it to acquaint yourself with some of the good stylistic conventions, methods of character development and overall positive spiritual themes.

Summary: Tesseracting is Confusing
Review: In general, I thought it was a good book. However, somewhere in the middle it got really confusing. The descriptins I thought were poorly given.

Summary: It was impossible to put down!!!!!!!
Review: This action, adventure, and pure amazment in the words. It was so fun to read and I highly recommend it! If you like this one also try, A Wind In The Door, or A Swiftly Tilting Planet.
