Summary: an eye-opening book in 1963
Review: I first read this book in 1963, when I was 13. I thought it was wonderful, totally different from anything I had read before. Because of this book, I read everything else by Ms. L'Engle that I could find and also started reading science fiction and discovered some of the wonderful authors of the time. Recently I bought all of her books and read them again. Now I realize that these books are more fantasy than science fiction, and about as religious as a book of popular quotations. Her theology is very fuzzy, sugary and sentimental. Upon reading her books, the feeling grows that the author is really removed from the real world and doesn't always know what she is talking about when it come to the grittier aspects of life. However, all that aside, she has an understanding of teenage depression and loneliness, and that speaks to the kids who reads these books. The characters are entertaining and likeable and it is interesting to follow them through the various books.

Summary: I did not remember how to tesseract...
Review: When I was a wee little lad, I had this book read to me, and then I read it several years later. Now an old old man at 30, I decided I wanted to once again delve into this "children's" novel that always gave me a strong memory of great beauty.

I was not disappointed; while ostensibly a children's novel, this book has concepts that will inspire wonder in even old cynics like myself. For children and teens, this book can challenge them to imagine, to think of strange other worlds and the possibilities of other dimensions. L'Engle is also sure to bring in a spiritual element to A Wrinkle in Time that is not preachy or inappropriate; it is in fact crucial to the plot.

Oh, I cannot resist wanting to compare it against the vapid, one-dimensional character of Harry Potter, or put it alongside the wonder and beauty of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. To do so, is perhaps not only opinionated, but also unfair; A Wrinkle in Time stands on its own and is unique unto itself. To miss out on this book is to miss out on the best of children's literature.

Read and enjoy!

Summary: Great book but a little confusing....
Review: This book is great. It has magic, adventure, time, and space all mixed up in a bowl by the one and only Madeliene L Engle. The main characters are Kalvin, Meg, and Charles. The only problem is that it is a little confusing. It starts off right with the problem. Besides that , it's great!

Summary: For ages 9-12 my foot! For ages 9-99 is more like it!
Review: I've known that this book has been around for a long time now, but finally, at age 44, I decided to buy a copy and read it. This is such a rich book that it is worthy of re-reading many times. Although set in a fantasy/sci-fi milieu, it speaks of adolescent angst, the destructiveness of gossip, the deception of appearances, the cosmic battle between good and evil, the malaise of rigid conformity, and most of all, the power of love, with a good dose of Christian sprituality thrown in (albeit with some universalistic overtones). If you don't want to read it for all this deep insight, just read it because it's a great book, I don't care how old you are!
