Rating: Summary: Intriguing and Profound Review: I picked up the book "A Wrinkle in Time" when I was a junior in High School because I had nothing else to do and I was bored. I couldn't put it down, sometimes even using other classes' free time to sit back and read it. I finished it in a week, but that's because I had homework and other crud to do.I have heard other readers complain that the book has inaccuarate information reguarding the 5 dementions of space and time, as well as the concept of "Tesseract". While this maybe true (I'm not sure myself), the plot more than makes up for the misinformation, as the concepts the author "creates" are what binds the book together. Some others say, still, that the story starts too slow, and ends way too fast. However, if we look at life itself, this book relates all too well to that fact. Sometimes our day starts off very slow, and suddenly, it's ended before we realize it. That is what makes the book even more intiguing, for it mirrors time within our world. Still, others believe that the ending was an anti-climax. Not in the least. I won't go into full detail, but I will say that it was a surprising and yet powerful ending entailing the one emotion that can make all the difference, and that is love. It is also a MAJOR break from some of the stuff I read or watch on TV today, the endings that sport violence and bloody messes really get dull after a while. All and all, I believe this book is well worth a read. Granted, you will need some patience at the begining and you need to be openminded about one's own concepts, but the plotline is worth it all. I would definately recommend this to those who want off the wall and challenging plots, and for those like me who are tired of movies and books with violence. However, be prepared; it's one of those books that seems to have caused a big controversial stir in the minds of the scientists, mathemeticians, and physicists who've read it, and that is something I personally find rewarding in and of itself.
Rating: Summary: A review 20 years in the making Review: I tried to read this book while in grade school. But the book's vocabulary and concepts were too difficult to understand (even with a dictionary). Maybe I was dumb, who knows? Now twenty years later, I just finished reading this book from cover-to-cover. It's an interesting book, but the ending is SUPER-abrupt. I expected a show-down between the forces of good and evil. But the story literally came to a screeching halt with the usual "love conquers all." Well, I'm not saying that love is a bad thing, don't get me wrong. I just expected a much better ending.
Rating: Summary: Classic! Review: This book is a classic! Ever had it happen when someone writes the exact right thing for something? Ever had this feeling? This book is written just like that. Good characters, and cute as hell.
Rating: Summary: My favorite book! Review: I absolutely adore this book! Having first read it at age 10, I have re-read it countless times since. L'Engle provides a wonderful story, with loveable and sympathetic characters. The book is amazingly detailed, yet is an easy and flowing read. As a teenager, I was able to relate to Meg's sense of not fitting in with the rest of her classmates. Her character sums up the awkwardness that being an adolescent brings. However, by the end of the book, Meg is greatly changed by her adventures, and is clearly more comfortable with herself. This book has many important themes, such as love, acceptance, and the triumph of good over evil. The story is both touching and interesting, especially good for those who enjoy science fiction (though others will like it as well!).
Rating: Summary: powerful fantasy fiction Review: I may be in college, however I sure do enjoy brushing up on the treasures of middle school fiction. And of all those cool books (Holes, Harry Potter, Redwall, Earthsea, etc.), this is definitely one of the best. It presents the interesting concept that the Earth is "shadowed", and that is why our world is so unjust, yet we have many bright people who fight the injustice. In other words, the Earth is in between Camazotz (read the book to see what I'm talking about), and Aunt Beast's planet, the former being a "dark" planet, and the other a "light" planet. The characters are very unique and captivating. And the way Ms Lengle fuses science and spirituality is really uncanny. I would recommend this for any fan of the fantasy/scifi genre, but even those not into said category may like this one. Best of all, there are four books following!

Rating: Summary: A Journey of Self-Discovery Review: This book features Meg Murray, a twelve year-old girl who feels frustratingly different from everyone else. She is called a moron at school and is constantly getting in trouble and sent to Mr. Jenkins' office. To make matters worse, her father has been missing for a long while and people are talking. This infuriates Meg, but she feels helpless to do anything about it. She wishes she were more like her younger twin brothers, Sandy and Dennys, who fit in so well with everyone else, and she cannot comprehend how her youngest brother, Charles Wallace, can remain indifferent to what everyone else thinks. Her mother, too, remains so calm and composed in the face of their troubles, but try as she might, Meg cannot help boiling over with anger and sadness. Things seem to get a bit better when Meg finds a precious friend in Calvin, who makes her feel worthy, special, and needed. Yet Meg still feels that she will never be anything but a moron and that nothing will be right until her father returns. When Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which enter the Murray's life, Meg begins the journey of a lifetime, not just of the body, but of the mind and spirit as well. Faced with the formidable task of saving her father and the universe from an evil force, Meg must confront many new and sometimes uncomfortable ideas. Through her encounters with other planets and creatures, Meg discovers that her human perspective and understanding are just one among many, and perhaps quite limited in comparison. She also realizes from her experiences on the dark planet Camazotz that being like everyone else is not necessarily a good thing, and that being alike and being equal are two very different things indeed. Finally, Meg learns that her father is not able to solve every problem and protect her from every danger, and that she must rely on her own strength as well. But what strength could she possibly possess that could overcome an evil so large as IT?
Rating: Summary: A Wrinkle in Time review Review: A Wrinkle in Time is about a girl named Meg Murray and her brother Charles Wallace. Their parents are both scintist. Her father is a physist and goes off to work for the government. One day while Meg and Charles Wallace were at home with their mother, they visit a haunted house and get special powers. They are visited by Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who who take them off to Camazotz to see there father. When they finally arrive in camazotz , Meg can see her father but he can't see her. So she loned him the glasses Mrs. Who gave her so he could see her. She talks to her father and they visit for a while. Charles Wallace got swallowed up by IT. IT controls his life. IT also had frozen Meg too. Meg came out of it and they saved Charles Wallace and they all went back home together. This is a great story for adolscents because it teaches them to care about others and it makes them realize how much they miss someone when they are gone.
Rating: Summary: Boring or Breath Taking Review: A Wrinkle in Time was a good book although I have read much better. The first hundred pages or so are rather boring but after that it starts to hook you. I do think that Madeleine L'Engle could have let us know the characters more, she just basicly says in the book that certain people are good and others are bad. In books I enjoy having the characters do things and say things and then with that you can judge whether you like them or not. Another thing I wish she put in the book were humorous characters. A character can be humorous but also quite important. One other thing that bugged me and all of my other friends reading it was Charles Wallace. "Let's be exclusive. That's my new word for the day. Impressive isn't it?" Yes that was a direct quote from the book. This was said by Charles Wallace who is four years old and a supposed-to-be genious. I hope I didn't make it sound like the whole book was bad and boring but some is and if I were to tell you of the good parts it would ruin the book. I'll give you one clue as to where it gets good. It is when they start talking about IT. So those that read this book I hope you enjoy!
Rating: Summary: from a 14 yr old girl Review: Dear Who-ever this may be helpful Not less than 10 minutes ago did I finish reading this great book. I did not even come online to write a review but to find out about the books that follow after this one. After reading some other peoples reviews i found it quite neccesary to state my opinion. I loved this book. My close friends and family know that I love plenty of books and maybe a have over a hundred favorites, but this book skyrocket-ed to the top of my list -still under Harry Potter, but what can you say, I'm a fanatic-. The book was superb for all ages. One follows Meg Murry, a "delinquent" teen with galsses and braces and a horrible plain face, through an epic quest for her father as she journeys through space and herself to find hidden qualities she did not know was there. Along for the ride is Charles Wallace her amazing young 5 year old brother who the town picks on as being sort of slow, to find out that this kid is absolutely great -I won't say why- And i won't forget Calvin, who i absolutely feel heads over heels for as he became closer and cloaser to insecure Meg. This book is great, the charecters are great, and I can go on forever but its dinner time. Bye now
