If anyone asked me to grade this book by a real standard, I would give it three stars. I live overseas, so I read many of the reviews before I bought it. I expected worse. It wasn't so bad. In fact, it was excellent! But there were a great deal of... well, Eragon is, after all, an 'archetypal hero story.' Paolini has done quite well for a novel like this. However, many of the "twists and turns" in this book are old and worn and well-used. I can see that Paolini has put some ideas of his own. Brom being who he was obvious. He couldn't just be a storyteller, could he? I also thought this book was pretty much slow-paced. So many pages and we don't even get to go to Du Weldenvarden or meet the evil king. Then there are the names. I believe names shouldn't be criticized, but I couldn't help feeling that this was very much like Tolkien's books because of the names. Eragon, for example, is very similar to Aragorn. Arya is also similar to Arwen. These similar names kept me thinking that Eragon was on a mission to destroy the Ring of Power and that Alagaesia was Middle-earth. There are too many questions not yet answered; but I suppose they'll all be answered in other books. It's a great start to a great series. But Paolini could improve.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Lovely book Review: This was a lovely read for me. I like fantasy very much. It was a fairly easy read and very enjoyable. I do agree that it wasn't entirely original as I would have liked. I kept being reminded of Tolkien like the other readers have commented, the elves characteristics are the same, as are the dwarfs and many other things written in the book. Also, does anyone but me kind of feel a little bit of a starwars theme here? riders - jedi, evil empire - evil empire, old, powerful evil king - old, powerful evil emperor, ect. lol. But all the same, who cares. Artist and writers are always inspirated and have used the same flavor from other artist and writers for years. At least the author of ERAGON used the ideas with taste. And even though there is a lot of familiarity in his books, there is also much of his own ideas and style that are very different. I can't wait for the next book!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Great Fantasy Book of our Time Review: To put it simply, Eragon is a great book. I've read many other books that are written in the same genre (fantasy/sci-fi) and this book seems to rank the highest out of all the novels. Paolini puls in various types of writing styles and combines them. The outcome is a great read and will leave you wanting more.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Can't Wait For Book 2!!!!! Review: Eragon is a fantastic book because... 1.) The excitement never stops( I just can't put it down!) 2.) For those who love fantasy with dragons and magic this is the book for you! (Christopher did such a good job writing this book that all the fiction seems to be fact). I abosulutley recommend this book to fantasy lovers out there. Your nose will be in it 24-7. I would not let someone too young read this because it has lots of violence, swordplay, and weapons. This book is a masterpiece you will never forget!!!!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An entertaining novel by all standards Review: While this book has many similarities to the the works of other writers, it maintains its own appeal. Readers of Tolkien will most definitely recognize some of the names, characterizations, and storylines located throughout the book. It is a realatively easy read and an enjoyable book despite its many refrences. I personally found it hard not to be strongly reminded of Tolkien constantly. It is certainly a book for those not quite ready to take up Tolkien's heavy volumes. I praise the work of Christopher Paolini and look forward to reading is next book.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THIS BOOK WAS THE GREATEST FANTACY EVER! Review: This book beats out, by far, all of the other fantasies that I have read, and I have read a bunch of fantasies, including Dragonlance and Harry Potter. This book is very interesting and descriptive. It has it's own language, like Lord of the Rings. First, I bought this book because I needed something to read, because I had to for school. First I thought it was going to be a chore to read this book, but after a couple of pages, I found out that it was actually a hobby. I really enjoyed this book, and cannot wait of the next Inheritance book to come out. I heard that there is going ot be a movie coming that is called Eragon, I can't wait to see it. I recommend this book to everyone who is a fan of fantasy books.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Mixed Review. Review: Well I have got a mixed opinion on this book... I sometime's want to call it good and some times bad because the {KID} that wrote this book did steal some name's from other book's and it is to similar to alot of the fantasy out there today. His next one better be better then this one. If you want a good {ORIGINAL} fantasy go check out, Robert Jordan's, Wheel of time series there AWSOME!!!! L8er all and remeber to check me out while your playing Unreal tournement 2003 and 2004. Your's truly the iinvincible, CHICKEN SLAYER!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Great CHILDRENS book Review: I would highly recommend this book. It is especially a good choice for boys 10-16. The writing is complex enough to be interesting, but straight forward enough not to be overwhelming. I like the character development, Saphira the dragon is wonderfully enigmatic. The growing relationship between Eragon and Saphira is well done. There is alot of foreshadowing of what is to come in the next books, and it is done in a way that will allow young readers to wonder what is coming, know that something is coming, but not be too sure about what it will be.My sons (age 8 and 10) and I have listened to the book on tape three times so far on car trips, and we are now fighting over who's turn it is to read the book itself. The tape is well done, I really like the voice of the reader. I have read some of the other reviews that criticize the book for being trite or a bad copy of someone else's ideas. This may be true for adults reading this book, but it is a book written for young people, and as such is a good introduction to fantasy literature. Perhaps it is true that Tolkien "purists" will be disappointed in this book (it wasn't written for them), but as someone who read Tolkien and loved it in high school, I see this book as a stepping stone for my boys, who aren't really ready for LOTR yet, but after reading this will be closer.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: one of the best! Review: I loved this book! the characters were believable, Saphira (dragon) was a great character. the loss of a loved one made the book realistic while the dragon balanced it with fantasy. the elves, dwarves, urgals, and shades made it even more intriguing! i cant wait for the next in Inheritance!
