Rating: Summary: A Gift of Magic is a great gift for the imaginative reader. Review: I am 35 years old now and I first read this book when I was in 5th grade. I loved it! Since then I have read everything I could get my hands on by Lois Duncan. I love her writing style, her imagination, and ability to create suspense and intrigue in her novels. I hope to be a writer myself and she's my inspiration.
Rating: Summary: A Gift Of Magic Review: I am a thirty six year old mother and grandmother who first read A Gift Of Magic when I was thirteen. I loved the book then, and never forgot it, it made such an impression on me that I wanted to find it again! So, I looked it up and found it still in print! It truly reflects artistry and a gift of storytelling. I now have a daughter who is seven and want to share this wonderful story with her. It is encouraging and inspiring, will make any reader believe....in Magic.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: I have read this book twice over a span of about 3 years, and both times, I have utterly loved it!!! I love the way Ms. Duncan uses Nancy's powers against her, until she learns to control them in the end. I also love her use of the idea of ESP. That subject intregues me greatly, because it's so mysterious. I also loved the way her plot unfolded to reveal a little secret about herself. A must for mystery buffs!!
Rating: Summary: An okay book Review: I liked the book A Gift of Magic. I thought that it was neat how when the old woman died she left her grandchild the gift of magic. But Nancy used the gift to do bad things until she learned to control it. Then she used the gift to help people.
Rating: Summary: Gifts Review: I liked this book because I thought it was so cool how she could do all the things that she could. That would bo so cool if i could read someones mind! All i know is that if i was to be around her i would be scared of what i was thinking because i wouldnt want her to know EVERYTHING. Just about anybody would enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: More Magic Please Review: I love Lois Duncan books but this one falls short of the rest. The plot was okay but I didn't like Nancy at all. And I think in order to enjoy the book, you should enjoy the main character. I thought the characters weren't that well developed. What I did like was how it didn't only focus on Nancy (thank God) but also on Brendon and Kirby. I wouldn't recommend this Lois Duncan novel.
Rating: Summary: A Gift Of Magic Review: I read the book A Gift Of Magic by Lois Duncan. The book was about a girl and her family. They moved to Florida where the mother use to live. She sees all of her friends that use to live there. She saw her first boyfriend too. They become good friends again. He becomes a big part of the families life. Each one of the three children got a gift from their grandmother. Nancy (one of the children) gets the most important gift of all. At first she hates her gift and wishes she didn't have it at all, but she learns how to use it very well and likes it then. Nancy got the gift her grandmother had before she died. Her brother Brendon does not like the gift from their grandmother. His gift is the gift of music. Her sister Kirby loves her gift. She uses it ever second of ever day. Kirby gets the gift of dance. One day Nancy is looking through some pictures of her grandmother, and finds more then she really wanted to know. I enjoyed reading A Gift Of Magic. In the beginning the book it was kind of boring, and a little bit confusing. After the first 10 through 20 pages the book got a lot better. It was a less boring. I liked the plot. The grandmother gave each of her three grandchildren a special gift all of there own. It was a little strange that she didn't give her own daughter a gift. I think maybe it was so she could have a better connection with her grandchildren. She would always know something about them. I liked how at the end everyone became friends with each other and had nothing agents them.
Rating: Summary: A GIFT OF MAGIC Review: I read the book THE GIFT OF MAGIC and i really liked it. In the begining Nancy relizes that she has a wonderful gift, but to her it isn't so wonderful. To this 13 year old girl, it is a bad thing. Until she helps her brother. But then her feelings changed again, when she hurt her sister. so is this gift a good or bad thing? read this mystery and find out for yourself!
Rating: Summary: The Gift of Magic Review: I read The Gift of Magic by Louis Duncan. There is a girl named Nancy wh o has E.S.P. She knows when the phone is going to ring and who is on the line. Nancy knew when her mother was crying without being told or seeing her mother. Then while Nancy was taking a test she knew the next three questions were going to be on the test. While glancing through the picture album she noticed her grandmother, who not only looked like her but also had E.S.P. Her E.S.P comes in handy when her brother got stuck on a sand bar in the ocean. It ends with a happy ending her sister became a dancer Nancy became a mother and her mother got married again and had a kid named Louis Duncan who had the gift of magic.
Rating: Summary: Read this fifteen years ago! Loved it then! Review: I read this book as a young teen and loved it, which is why I was searching for it for my own daughter. I could not recall the name, only the plot and storyline. Like other reviewers, I was a little disappointed in some of the attitude toward Nancy's "magic" at the end of the story, but overall the book was good enough to send me searching for it fifteen years later. I'm interested in seeing if the reprint has been edited at all. And I certainly never knew that the author ended up putting together stories like "I know what you did last summer"! That will be a strong selling point when I present this book to my horror-movie obsessed 12 year old daughter!
