Rating: Summary: A thrill to read Review: This book is the perfect mix of exciting action and learning to follow your dreams with an undettered disipline and dedication. Pfetzer is an inspiration and Galvin is a masterful writer, I will continue to follow and look for work or accomplishments by either
Rating: Summary: FIVE STARS A GREAT PIECE OF LITERATURE Review: The book was spirited and uplifting. It inspires the average person to do the impossible. The story is an umbeileavable one and it is told with great passion by the author Jack Galvin. I am looking forwared to following Pfetzers next attempts at Everest and the Andria Doria and am also looking to read any other material written by Galvin, He is a great author who excites the reader. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Motivation for readers of all ages. Review: The ability to "rise above" traditional barriers, personal determination to reach a goal, a positive attitude - all values often viewed as missing in today's youth culture - are clearly presented by author Galvin in a way that both captures the young climber's perseverance and leaves the reader inspired. I found myself reflecting on my own life experiences and feeling thankful that I can still learn from someone so young!
Rating: Summary: The power of pursuing your dreams Review: A wonderfully written story of the potential and determination kids can find within themselves to pursue their dreams. Mark is an inspiration to both adults and kids!
Rating: Summary: Riviting, a great inspirational story. Review: Its great to know how a person with a dream can follow it thorugh.
Rating: Summary: Within Reach redefines the concept of boyhood adventure Review: You should meet Mark Pfetzer. In this age of MTV boredom, he stands as an example of a boy who dreams big and follows through, a kid who raises youthful adventure to new heights, literally. WITHIN REACH shows kids how putting one foot in front of the other insures success.
Rating: Summary: "Within Reach" was the Best Book I've Read in a Long Time! Review: "Within Reach" by Mark Pfetzer and Jack Galvin was a very good book. In fact, it was one of the best books I've read in a long time. At first when this book was suggested to me, I thought "Wow. Another boring non-fiction book about some guy climbing Everest. Whoopee." But I was wrong. I loved "Within Reach"! I suggest it for anyone interested in a good read. Even if you don't like non-fiction or adventure books, I think this book's for you! I took this book to all my classes at school and brought it home every night, sneaking a read when I was supposed to be doing my homework - that's how much I really couldn't put this book down! I loved following Mark's journeys in mountain climbing, and I hope there will be a sequel soon about his 1999 Everest and Andrea Doria expedition! (The Andrea Doria is a sunken cruise ship that a group [including Mark] is going to explore, 240 feet undersea!) And Mark, if you're reading this, I'm sorry about your dad.
Rating: Summary: Mark Phetzer...Mr. Summit Review: Mark Pfetzer is 12 when he decides to become a mountain climber. At the age of 16, he makes his second Everest summit attempt during the 1996 storm. As the story progresses, Pfetzer must balance family obligations with his climbing ambitions. Told by Pfetzer and ghostwritten by Galvin in a teenage writing style, this is an ultimately inspiring tale about a teenager whose ambitions take him outside the norms presented to teens. It shows the value of determination and also offers an alternative to a disaffected teenaged existance of living for the future. ages 12+
Rating: Summary: inspirational book Review: Just recently I read a very inspirational book about a 16-year-old boy who climbed atop of Mount Everest. That book is written by Mark Pfetzer and it is called Within Reach: My Everest Story. Mark Pfetzer started to climb at the age of 12 in a rock climbing gym near his house. He got to climbing because his aunts music teacher also climbed and so they got together and first went to Peru to climb those mountains. Then he went to Nepal which is in Asia the north side of the Himalayans. The Himalayans are the biggest mountains in the world. Mark climbs the Himalayans four times. His life long goal was to climb it once but through his perseverance no only did he climb it once but he climbed it more than once. He also climbed the highest mountain in the world before he even graduated from high school. He was also a very good student. Throughout all the time he was climbing mountains he was doing his school work and xlimbing at the same time. I think he is a very good role model for every young kid. Mark is a person who reaches his goal and lets no obstacle stop him and still focuses on doing his homework. He had obstacles like knowing that his father was diagnosed with cancer in his ear and then a year later his father died of just that. But that didn't stop him from reaching his goals. I enjoyed reading this book and it is a very good book for young people looking for a role model.
