Summary: 4th Harry Potter Book is Worth the Wait
Review: When I first picked up the latest in the Harry Potter series, I wondered why it was so thick in comparison to the other books. The reason for this is that it's full of action as well as important character developments. I read it as eagerly and quickly as any of the other books.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is longer and more involved, but it's appropriate, as Harry has just turned 14 and his life has become more involved. The changes in the lives of Harry and his friends are addressed really well. Though they are wizards and witches, they are young teenagers now, and deal with the universal adolescent themes of flirting and appearance. However, this book has not turned the series into a series of romance novels by any stretch of the imagination! There's still more to be discovered at Hogwarts, and more evil to be fought. As Harry grows older and more complex, so does his battle with evil and his search for the truth. It can only get more interesting from here.

Summary: Double Good
Review: It was with some trepidation that I first viewed this book -- where else could the stories go? are we going to have a repetition or a stretching of what was so charming in the first books? Surprise, surprise: The latest Harry Potter adventure is twice the size and twice as good as the last. Unlike some writers of ever-expanding sequels to popular best-sellers, Ms. Rowling mapped out her plan for seven books before writing even one of them: a classic, winning literary strategy. The books do not get thinner, in every sense of the word, but deeper. The point of view, also, matures with Harry and the writing becomes more complex. The books are not so much a series as a set, as we see in trilogies or quartets, each bringing us something more, each rounding out the story more.[STOP] As an educator, the value I see in these books is that they are engaging, written in the old oral story-teller style in which each episode, or chapter, ends with a question, leaving the reader to anticipate the next. It is also, literally, "a page turner," as the pages also are set up to leave us anticipating the next. However, "engaging" alone is not enough. Students have the pleasure of discovering for themselves how a book can capture their imaginations and transport them to another place, peopled with characters in settings and situations described by the author and fleshed out, or given life, by the reader. Moreover, we have in these books an excellent use of the written language, in terms of the academic conventions of structure and punctuation as well as in the use of interesting vocabulary -- a good model all around. [STOP] Teachers: don't rob your students of the opportunity to discover the pleasure of reading, of the printed word, for themselves by reading this aloud to them. (You'll also be able to avoid the odd objection based on the title or what was heard on the grapevine or circulated on a photocopied collection of excerpts out of context). If you yourself want to read it, by all means do so, but read it at home. You'll know what it's all about and be able to discuss it with those who have read it and discovered the power of the printed word. [STOP] What an incredible "teachable moment" this book and its predecessors have presented! It also has the great possibility of an excellent means of providing the number one valuable lesson in media literacy: when the movie(s) come out, the children can see for themselves how a movie pales in comparison to their much richer individual imaginations. Leave this book to them to read at home, on the bus, on the playground, in SSR, anywhere that allows them to read it for themselves, as it's rare to find a book that motivates children to read not only by its page-turning quality, its well-written pages, but by its being the latest cool thing to do.

Summary: They just keep getting better and better
Review: When I first read the Sorcerer's Stone back in August, 1998, I had no idea what was in store for the entire world. But I do now. These books are easily, with no doubt the best books I have ever read. They are so action packed, humorous, and yet they have something, something hard to detect. I thought that the third book was the best, but now i think the Goblet of Fire is definately number one. They just keep getting better and better, and I cant wait until the Fifth one comes out.

Summary: Wow, she did it again!
Review: Oh my gosh, Rowling did it again! This book is amazing. I thought it was going to follow the usual plot: something comes up with Voldemort and Harry saves the day, but I was wrong. This new book is full of strong emotions, this book doesn't seem to contain the sureness that everything is going to be all right and Harry is going to come out on top. After I read the book, I felt just like Harry: depressed. The romance in the book kinda confused me and threw me off the plot, it wasn't like I expected at all. And you know, all those rumors people posted about the book weren't true, they were totally off! ~hehe- serves them right~ Well in short, the book is worth every penny of the price, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Worth the wait
Review: (actually this is from Soo Sun's 12 yr old, who's read all the Harry Potter books. Yes, we waited in line at midnight to get our copy and he has DEVOURED all 700+ pages in the last two days).

Yes, it lives up to the hype. The new Harry Potter book is excellent. The imaginitive creations, interesting storylines and plot twists are amazing. The character interaction is superb and they act and respond to their surroundings just as children their age should. If anyone tells you it's not worth it, ignore them, because this is a wonderful book for anyone.

Summary: Five Cheers for Harry Potter Year Four
Review: While I may not fit the demographics for lovers of Harry Potter and his friends, I have indeed read all four books in the series as well as sending copies to my grandsons. From page one of The Goblet of Fire to page 734 this is a winner. The story begins with exciting events which tell us that Harry is indeed going to meet new challenges which will require both personal courage and the support of his school friends and the adult wizards from Hogwarts. Activities which any school may include (such as the Yule Ball) let us see that even though the students may be learning much about wizardry they still have the same uncertainities as Muggle boys and girls. The three tasks are real page turners and the reader is never sure how each will be concluded. The final chapter, "The Beginning", gives us a glimpse of the personal growth that Harry and his friends have made over the year. Loyalty, fair play, learning to accept others for what they are rather than their appearance or achievements are things we all need to act upon. No matter our age, we can learn something from Harry Potter.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: Although this Harry Potter book was pretty good, I will have to say I'm a little disappointed. Rowling seems to have gone more for quantity than quality in the Goblet of Fire and I find that this book did not have that magic specialness the Harry Potter books usually contain.
