Rating: Summary: Harry Potter's back with a Bang! Review: This book rocks and rolls... hard! It starts off in the usual manner with scenes of Harry with the Dursleys. But then everything else seems slightly different when compared to the other HP books! This book seems to reflect upon the fact that Harry is now older than he was in the earlier books. The characters that one is going to meet in this book are the usual Hogwarts crew and also Lupin, Sirius, Moody, The Weasleys amongst others make their appearance in it. There is also a new DADA teacher who is positively REPULSIVE. I hated reading about what she did and tried to do! It was positively loathsome! In fact, believe me when I say this: She was positively more repulsive than Voldermort ever could be! Be prepared to hate her the most when you embark upon the "O.T.Phoenix". There are also a couple of new creatures: Threstals! I will not tell you what they are, only that they are interesting! And, as far as the character that dies is concerned. You'll keep guessing who it is till the very end! On at least four different occasions, I thought sadly that the time had come, but then it didn't. But when it comes, you're sad anyway! The only thing which I felt was lacking in this book was that Draco Malfoy's role in it seems to have dwindled! He hardly ever appears in this book. But on the whole: this book does live up to the hype surrounding it and the secrecy behind the whole business of "Who dies in it?" is also intriguing. A new witch called Tonks is introduced in this book; she sounds like real fun! ;) Anyway, to sum it all up in a succinct statement: The book is absolutely riveting and enjoyable. The only thing is that now we'll have to wait till HP-6 comes out! That will be an agony filled wait. Till then, HP-5 will have to do. And it will...
Rating: Summary: Very Dark, Slightly depressing Review: Expecting the local bookshop shelves to be completely bare, I was very suprised to find this book easily available only an hour after its release. However, it was on special, so I grabbed it, took it home and started reading. Two days later I was done, it was that compelling. I found Harry to be slightly less likable in this book, although I could understand the reasons for his changes in character. Possibly a small complaint is that Hermione and Ron have hardly changed at all since they were 11, while Harry has become a full blown angst ridden teenager. This is handled quite well, although his moping does grate after a while. The series is maturing, presumably apace with the readers. There are some themes here that weren't even hinted at in earlier books, and the suggestion that its going to get darker and more mature still. I found the experience of reading the book as a whole slightly depressing, similar in a way to some of Harrys experiences at Hogwarts, which he describes as 'Odd notes in a familiar tune' (I forget the exact quote). We're used to the routine of the books by now, and it's slightly altered in this one, which is disconcerting. This is not necessarly a bad thing, and I'm still greatly looking forward to the next in the series. It's not all doom and gloom however. Theres a few laugh out loud moments, mostly involving the Weasly twins, which I won't divulge. All in all, greatly recommended, with a little bit of excessive wordiness stopping it from being a perfect 5...looking forward to book number 6.
Rating: Summary: A more grown up Harry Potter Review: In this book, Harry shows a much wider range of emotion than in the previous books. He's truely a 15 year old boy with not only the normal puberty, girls, and classes on his mind but also the weight of dealing with the public opinion of the return of Lord Voldemort. This book has a lot of detail in it, which I'm sure all Harry Potter fans will eat alive. It makes it a slightly slower read than the other books, but the book has natural pauses rather than lulls in the story line. The ending helps to tie in the ideas from the other books to give the reader a better idea of how Harry and the story have evolved and where its going. Its definitely a book that I highly recommend and will read more than once, whenever I get my copy back from my friend who borrowed it. :)
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter #5 . . . Review: I think Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was a great continuation of the Harry Potter saga. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and like the others in this series it'll leave you wishing for more!! J.K. Rowling has written another awesome book and I highly recomend it to anyone who has read the other four books.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful yet dark and helpless Review: As always, the fifth book of the Harry Potter series is fantastic. However, do not believe that this book will be filled with the wide-eyed innocence and optimism of the others. This book is dark, melancholic, sad, frustrating, and full of a scary helplessness. Harry has definitely started to become an adult, and everything that goes with it--all the horrors and pains--are multiplied tenfold for Harry. Anyone one who has been ridiculed, laughed at, not believed, and tormented mercilessly will identify with Harry on a frightenly angry level. There were times when I had to put down the book because I was so angry at the way Harry was being treated. I wanted to reach into the book and smite all the people who were taking being so horribly mean, cruel, cold, and evil to a whole new level. Do not expect to read this book and come away bouyant and happy. It is an excellent piece of literature, yet suprisingly dark, depressing, and pensive. I truly can't wait for the next two books to see how Harry will overcome the horrible revelations and circumstances that are brought to light in "Phoenix."
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I read this book in 10 hours putting it down only long enough for me to get some sleep! It is worth every second it takes to read the 870 page book. J. K. Rowling has you laughing, crying, and every minute waiting to know what happens to Harry and his friends. I absolutely loved this book and I hope everyone else does too. Now I must go and reread it again to get all the little details that the author puts in to guarantee repeated enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: Harry's adventures enter a larger world Review: I took the day off of work to read this book basically cover to cover, so obviously I'm a big fan. That said, the end of book four set up a great expansion of the scope of the story that would be covered in this series, and I had some trepidation as to whether or not J.K. Rowling would be able to pull it off (especially under the immense pressure of currently being the world's most popular author, among her many other commitments). To my great delight, she succeeded brilliantly! In my mind, each book of the Harry Potter series as been better than the ones preceding it, and J.K. Rowling has accomplished this feat yet again. Book five is the best of the series so far, and I fully expect this trend to continue through books six and seven. While I found the first book in the series (particularly the beginning) to be somewhat formulaic, this series has really grown in the telling. The characters in book five become more complex and the sense of Harry and his friends going through their teenage years is well conveyed. The stakes are higher, the emotions deeper, and the intricacies of the plot increased. The heart of the story remains the courage and friendship of youth overcoming adversity. I recommend this book (and the entire series) whole-heartedly to children and adults alike.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: After looking forward to this book for a long time, I was sorely disappointed. The book lacked energy and excitement. The characters were dull, especially Harry who ranted and raved like an out of control two-year-old. It must have been difficult to follow in the footsteps of The Goblet of Fire. Too much Hype.
Rating: Summary: There are no words to describe this book Review: Okay... maybe there are some words to discribe this book. like, awesome, engaging, perfect, etc, etc. This book is by far the best book out in the series thus far. I could hardly stop reading it for a second. I found myself reading it at 6:22 in the morning realizing that I forgot to go to sleep! And so much was happening so fast, I was worried that the book wouldn't make it to the end of the school year, but of course it did. Whith a great cast of supporting charactors and loathable enemies, this book is highly adictive. You really get involved in this book. At one particularly sad point in the story, I actualy cried. And I don't mean a single tear, I'm talking shaking so bad I couldn't read the words anymore. For those of you who have finished the book, you know what part I'm refering to. I hope that somehow... well, I hope that it wasn't what it seemed. Anyway... if you hadn't picked up this book yet, you have to soon. I know it's been nearly three years since the last one came out but, it was definatly worth the wait. I just hope the next one doesn't take so long! ...13
