Rating: Summary: The Best So Far Review: After having watched the first two movies, I decided to read the books. I was hooked from the first page. This book was no different than the first four, and a bit better. I only hope that book six isn't far behind.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is a teenager. Review: I haven't finished the book yet, but its definately good so far. Finally, I can relate to Harry better (not that he wasn't a great character before). He is such a teenager, filled with dark angst and insecurities. His bad qualities, as well as many goods, are starting to be more out in the open, but that is what makes a good character (their complexities). I can't wait until I read about Draco and see how he's become...
Rating: Summary: dark times for harry potter Review: While reading HPOTP it was really cool to see the not so inicent parts of harry.he strugules wirh his inner feelings not always chosing the right coice but does what his heart tells him is right. It was exciting to see Lupin and the rest of the "old" crowd back. This book was my favorite book in the the series because of the more mature and darker storyline and it didn't hurt that Im fifteen. Great book but don't make us wait so long for the next one. P.S sorry if there are any spelly errors
Rating: Summary: One Of The Best Books I Have Ever Read Review: WOW! I recently received a new copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and quality of the book. I have read all of the other Harry Potter books in the past and I enjoyed them quite a bit. But Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by far exceeds the other books in quality, depth, and above all else, value. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in my opinion, is a much darker and more serious novel than the previous ones. This appealed to me and I assume it will appeal to the teens and adults more than the younger children. A bit of advise for parents of younger children, I think this book should only be read by children of at least nine do to the increased amount of violence and overall darkness. But getting past all the negatives. This book, in my opinion, has set a new standard for the Harry Potter series and I have a new respect for Rowling as a writer and a thinker in general. Compared to the other books the characters become much more complex and intricate, especially in Harry's case. Harry, who during the book is fighting with his own mind well trying to repair his slandered reputations, becomes very angry and depressed throughout the book. Another great character is the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. Though I do not want to give away any plot lines it is reasonable to assume that this Professor is not only hated by the students but also by the other Professors and even the school ghosts hate her. Fred and George Weasly also make a great pair in this book, they add a huge amount of humor that brings a different side to the book and eventually ends with a funny climax by the twins near the end of the book. Harry's godfather also plays a huge part in the book. I could not put this book down. Every page seems to add to the story more and more and I found it near impossible to stop reading for such a silly thing as sleep. The fact is, this book, though darker and longer than the others, is by far the BEST book that Rowling has written to date. I just hope I don't have to wait 3 years for the next one.
Rating: Summary: It just keeps getting better. Review: Book number five in the story of Harry Potter takes off from the very dark ending of Goblet of Fire and runs with it. Right away with the first chapter, we see that the world has changed and danger will be threatened at every turn of the page. Harry Potter has definitely grown up and this may well be the best book yet. While we certainly get some of the wonderful humor we've come to expect from the series, the tone is decidedly more serious throughout the 870 pages and I found myself gasping and whimpering audibly. Rowling gives us moments of true horror and dispair. Much has been said about the death of a main character. I will not give away the identity of this character, but must mention that it is a surprise. I'm sure that very few people would guess who will be lost. It is quite sudden and painful. This is truly great drama. More than ever, Rowling's ability to mix both the extraordinary and epic drama, with the very relatable coming of age angst of growing up is superb. We don't doubt that Harry would really be concerned about a girl despite all that is going on. It is a beautiful balance. Also, in Order of the Phoenix, we have the first true wizard battle. It is exhilirating to have such a large scale and fast paced fight involving such a large number of wizards. Truly spellbinding. We are also treated to some wonderful new characters (Luna Lovegood, Nymphadora Tonks, and Professor Umbridge stand out) and visits from some old ones. Our existing group of characters develop and reveal more shades, some incredibly surprising. And finally, some questions that have been asked quietly in the backs of our heads are answered in brilliant fashion. For instance, why does Harry get sent back to the Dursleys every Summer? This book fullfills the promise of the previous four and sets an even higher standard for the two that remain. It is full of wonderful characters, rich emotions, and just plain exquisite storytelling. I can't wait to read this a second time and am even more impatient to read the next volume. Any true fan will be very pleased.
Rating: Summary: EXCELENT! J.K. ROWLING DOES IT AGAIN! Review: This was one amazing book. It truly captivated the imagination... I am a thirteen year old reader, and I read this in 2 days flat. It whisks you off into a far away land where anything is possible... Like all the Harry Potter books, it succeeds as being a 5 star book. If you have or haven't read the Harry Potter series you should. This one is extremely good.
Rating: Summary: And now for something completly different.... Review: Well, I just finished the new Harry Potter, and while i'm not totally sure what I think about the infamous "death" (which I will not reveal here), I do know that this book is somewhat of a departure from the other four. While this departure may prove to alienate some fans, I have to say that I really dug it and got intot he darker, more mature themes presented in this book. Don't get me wrong though, there is sill a good bit of fun to be had, mostly Fred and George's hilarious antics. However, younger fans beware, there are some scares and some suprisingly brutal battle sequences, but all in all, I think this one is right up there with the other four. Sort of like the "Empire" of the Harry Potter series. Think of it as a continuation of the monster turning point unveiled in book four, and I promise, if you are willing to open your mind for something new, you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait Review: I believe this is the best book so far in the Harry Potter series. Waiting three years for this book I believe was to long but now that I have read the book It was worth the wait, The only problem I see is now we have to wait more for Book 6. Harry Potter and The order of the Phoenix was well written, and sophistically witty with childish charm. Great reading for age 5 to age 105.
Rating: Summary: Good, but. . . Review: After three years it is finally here, and yet I did not find it as satisfying as the previous books. Maybe it was just me, but I found that the "startling prophecy" was not that startling. . . it was stuff the reader pretty much already knew. I also found that there were quite a few loose-ends that were not wrapped up--a number of things were not explained, when explanation was certainly necessary. Also, characters were introduced, only to be dropped until they provided a 'convenient' escape. Overall, the book is enjoyable & a very quick read. However, I feel that 10% of what was written could have been taken out (for example, do we really need to know the titles of every book the characters come across if they are not crucial to the plot? Oh wait. . .more Harry products to market).
Rating: Summary: Expectations? 100% Fulfilled!! Review: Amazingly, in a world filled with half-met expectations (*cough*Matrix*cough*), JK Rowling continues to provide us with eveything she promises, and then some. This 5th book in the series is much darker, more intense and is the first book in 3 years (see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) that I have not been able to put down, even at 3 in the morning. The story line is woven with such intricacy, yet clarity, it is extremely clear that JK Rowling has planned every step in this saga, probably down to the chapter. Even from the first time I opened the book, reading it has been bittersweet -- the books are *so* good, but we are over the hump and I can't help seeing the light at the end of the tunnel when year 7 rolls around and finishes off the series. I just finished Order of the Phoenix for the first time, and will be starting it again shortly, to catch anything I may have missed. And to keep the light at the end of the tunnel a little bit farther away.
