Rating: Summary: The last 300 pages are great!! Review: I've been a Harry Potter fan for years now and anxiously looked forward to the Order of the Phoenix. I was not disappointed! While the beginning of the book seemed to drag with the constant angst of Harry I later found it was needed to set us up for the excitement of the last 300 pages. It was like being on a wild rollercoaster ride and when I was finished, I could have kicked myself for reading it so fast. I'm going to have to wait that much longer for the next book that is bound to be even better now that more people believe He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back. This book is definitely less light hearted than the earlier Potter books. There are more mature themes, but they are handled in such a way that they are not really inappropriate for a younger audience. I highly recommend this book for a wide age range.
Rating: Summary: Fun~Fun~Fun Review: Superb! Readers will be easily engaged with the latest book as Rowling proves once again that she is a magician with words and is pregnant with new ideas. Readers will find a maturing, angry disappointed, confused, infatuated(sometimes all at once!) Harry as he weaves his way through his most difficult year at Hogwarts yet.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome!! Review: This book is the best so far.Harry Potter is facing things that i would face, since i am 15.Anyway,most of the rumors for this book, probably 4/5 of all the rumors i have heard are FAKE.Believe me this book is nothing i thought it would be.Also the death at the end is so awlful.I finally realized wut J.K. Rowling meant by how bad it wuz.Im not seying anything 'bout the death. You will, i repeat, you will be sad and touched 'bout who dies. Also, the new D.A.D.A. teacher is soooooo...i wanna juss do sumthin' i cant sey anything 'bout either. Also the new place you visit that is magical is sumthin' that you've heard before, well duh.Im not seyin' anythin' b/cause you wont b surprised.Harry and Cho,a little tension there.O' also, 'bout the 1st prophecy, that wuz mentioned in the fourth book you will be startled. You'll be startled about who is a Prefect.I hope you like this book because it is awesome. It is bigger, better, and darker. You'll be wanting for the next book.Only 2 more years to go.
Rating: Summary: Not bad... but not as entertaining as the others Review: I just finished the book tonight and while I found it interesting, I didn't love it. Harry's turned 15 and he's turned into a slightly whiny kid with somewhat of a chip on his shoulder. Ron and Hermione don't seem to suffer the same age-related issues. Every once and a while it seems Harry's about to step out of his self-pity and return to himself but then he drops into it again. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the book and it did advance quite a few characters, I just didn't enjoy it as much as the others. I know it's a dark time but this installment just didn't seem to have ANY of the lightness or joy on the part of the characters that the others did- something I felt made them more interesting and appealing when the going got rough in previous books. I didn't even feel that sad when one of the characters died (not a surprise since it was all over the news.) I just didn't feel that connected this time around.
Rating: Summary: The Best... So Far Review: I enjoyed this story completely. Harry is changing into a man and all ups and downs that come along with it. Professor Umbridge is detestable, I really hated her along with the other students. This story drew me in. I could not put it down. I felt like one of the students there on this huge journey. I laughed, was angered, and shocked. Now I can't wait to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: MAGICAL!!! Review: If you haven't picked up this book so far, get it...NOW!!!! The most amazing book in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix does not meet the stantards set by the first four books. It crushes the old stantards and sets the bar even higher (if that is possible)! There is so much suspense and action, especially nearer to the end, that you would be unable to put the book down. Although the author, J.K. Rowling, does leave many little things unexplained, she does answer some questions Potter readers have pondered since the last book. The only complaint I have is that the series should not end in seven books.P.S.- I also hope that Rowling will not make her fans wait for the next book as long as they did for this one!
Rating: Summary: Sniping at Snape Review: Another winner in the series. Rowling books are like a Kirasawa film. They are twice as long as others because more characters are fully developed. The character development may be the best yet in this one. Several issues from the series are resolved, but several others are allowed to continue with added texture. The skinny of it is: The Order of the Phoenix is a great book and will get you hooked or keep you hooked on the series.
Rating: Summary: Good, but no Goblet of Fire Review: As an avid Harry Potter fan, I felt it necessary to read this book as soon as it was in my hands from front to back. I ended up falling asleep around page 625. The first 10 or so chapters are very driven and plot-oriented, as are the last 10 or so. However, there is an unneccessarily long middle section, where some fun things happen (especially with Fred and George) but overall, it is very depressing, as it only illuminates how angry and alone Harry feels and what a dreadful person Prof. Umbridge is. I feel that JKR could have easily axed about 300 of these pages by condensing the action, and dwelling less on how much Harry hates the world right now. Don't get me wrong, this work is still far better than many other books out there, and I would definitely recommend it, but I don't find it "up to par", per se, with JKR's previous four installments of the Harry Potter series. On the upside, I would also like to add that a great deal of character development occurs throughout this novel, particularly concerning Ginny, Neville, Fred, George, Cho, Sirius, and, of course, Harry is someone entirely different than many of us expected.
Rating: Summary: Is being an adolesent that much of a nightmare? Review: The beginning of this book started out kind of shaky. Harry's mood swings became kind of frustrating, but being a 15 year old can do that to a person. All the old characters are back; Ron, and Hermione for example, do their best to keep calm, while Harry goes on adolesent rampages; usually blown out of proportion. After the first 200 pages though, things start to heat up. From new teachers to new strange visions, I can garentee that you're on the edge of your seat up till the very end.(with a very clever plot twist, that leaves you in wonder.) I've got to say that this book was my favorite so far.. the powerful human actions and emotions gave the book so much realism in its fanatasy story setting. Nice job J.K. Rowling, you've done it again!
Rating: Summary: The Magic Continues Review: The long wait for HP5 was definitely worthwhile, with author JK Rowling blessing us with another creative outpouring of new characters and new magical situations to entrance and delight us from cover to cover. Although Harry and his friends are now definitely young adults rather than children, the book remains suitable for children of all ages. A recent study suggested that more than half of all HP readers are aged over 35, and 25% are aged over 55) so, if like me, you're young at heart but not in calendar years, you can still admit, without embarrassment, to enjoying this and the other books in this 7 book series.
