Rating: 5 stars
Summary: brilliantly researched and argued
Review: This is a meticulously researched exposition of the theoretical development of two largely unheralded (at least in America) political theorists, Otto Kirchheimer and Franz Neumann. Responding to past influences such as Locke, Rousseau, Weber and even Schmitt, these two contemporaries made signficant strides in the development of a critical democratic theory that would be responsive to the concerns of a (post)modern age. This book serves as an excellent introduction to their work, and as such truly a must-read for anyone grappling with the challenges of contemporary democracy.
