Summary: Great Downsizing Resource
Review: Are You a Corporate Refugee? is an excellelnt resource for people who are being downsized, EAP professionals, and Outplacement experts. This book proves to be a guide for preparing for an imminent layoff and describing steps to take after the layoff. The author, Ruth Luban, does an excellent job in not only presenting a very practical guide, but addressing the full range of emotions attached to such a major life changing event.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Lubin Hits the Mark
Review: As a career counselor, I am always searching for resources that are both informative about the psycholological impact of change and pragmatic enough to provide concrete guidance for persons navigating a career transition. This is the book I most often suggest to clients who have been laid off or are otherwise in the middle of a job change under challenging circumstances. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Great book for governing unexpected change
Review: I have just gone through a period of transition and this book was a great help to me. Much to my surprise, my experience really followed the stages described. I was completely blind-sided by a layoff. I found a reference to this book on one of the job search sites (I forget which) and it was highly praised. At first I was skeptical because it seemed a little too "new age" for me. But, boy was I in for an awakening. I worked through the exercises and watched as my unfolding mirrored the progression described. It wasn't always linear, one day I would be hopeful, the next back into despair and anger; but that is what is so good about this book. You can open it to whatever stage you're in and read (or re-read) the suggestions, exercises and activities that match your current condition or state of mind. The book also contains web site recommendations that are current and very useful and recommends other books that delve deeper into any one stage or state of mind. I am a more spiritual person as a result of my passage and the guidance provided by this book. And yes, in the end, I did "see the beacon" and stayed true to my course until I found the "new land". Thank you Ruth Luban! Good luck to everyone else that is on this journey. Find your true calling and horizons will open to you.

Summary: Get It If You Are Displaced Person
Review: I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has been retrenched, made redundant, involuntarily exited from the workplace or simply disillusioned with his or her workplace. A step by step manual on how to transition or transform yourself and make a comeback. Full of tips and suggestions, if you are a career hunter, it would be useful to have this text handy. Its got some stories of individuals' experiences and therefore this should be helpful in enabling you to make a move, if you are hesitating.

Review: On the brink of layoff, I found this book at the library among the usual collection of books on resume' building, interviewing and job search. Reading the first chapters about downsizing I could see that this book was about my story, starting with the "On The Brink" experience of knowing something drastic is about to happen soon. Turns out the book is about the internal challenges and transitions involved in loosing a job, dealing with "what to do next" and how to make the journy to the next job a rewarding one.

Now I have my own copy from Amazon which I use most every day. It is very helpful.
