Summary: Modeling the obvious
Review: This book is a typical work of American political science: it removes most things that make politics interesting, substituting for them dry and ponderous "empirical study" that seldom does more than model what is already obvious, or is even trite or banal. The author thus presents as "insights" born of statistical analysis what are mostly and merely basic, journalistic observations that one might find in any newspaper discussion of trade policy. Neither policymakers nor students with a serious interest in trade policy will find this book of much use.
