Rating: Summary: Mixed Review of Horner's "Forex Trading for Maximum Profit" Review: After all of the hype that I read surrounding this book, I was pretty disappointed with its content. The charts too small to be read easily, and the spelling and punctuation errors were more than I cared for.
The book does give a brief overview of the Forex market, but I was hoping for something more. The author does do a good job of describing her method of trading the market. I must admit that while I was reading the book, I was thinking that her methods seemed just too simple to be effective. However, the day after I finished reading the book, I found and successfully traded both a swing trade and a momentum trade using her techniques. The results were a gain of 30 pips on the swing trade and 75 pips on the momentum trade! This book has definitely given me another way to look for trades and I will continue to follow her "Three-Step Setup".
Rating: Summary: Learning to Trade Forex Review: Being new to the forex market, I was told by a representative at
esignal about Raghee Horner. After reading her book, I feel so much more confident about being able to trade successfully in the forex market. Raghee provides information for both the beginner and the "expert" trader. A must read for anyone who either is already trading forex or plans to do so in the future.
Truly a great book!
Rating: Summary: Not what was hoping for Review: I waited for the release of this book with much anticipation, expecting it to be an up to date, comprehensive look at how to trade the forex market (especially considering the price tag, which is higher than many of the more in-depth books already out there). With less than 200 pages, the majority of the chapters are only between 2 and 5 pages, leaving one to speculate the book was written in a hurry in order to make some quick money. Ideas were generalized, without the myriad chart examples one would expect to find in this sort of book. Such things as trading setups and targets were calculated soley through the use of Fibonacci and S&R, without taking advantage of consolidation and reversal patterns in order to calculate targets. The author also uses less common indicators and studies than one would expect, but essentially they do the same job as the more common ones (nothing more than personal preferrence here). One can further glean the speed with which the book was written and pushed to market by the abhoring editing job--grammer and spelling errors galore!! Only if familiar with trading terms and ideas will the reader likely be able to unscamble what the author is trying to say where her sentences have fallen apart and been filled with misplaced prepositions. All in all, the book was nothing more than a whittled down rehash of some basic ideas that have already been repeated ad infinitum in other books. I was truly hoping this would be my bible of forex trading, which would hold a preferred place on my shelf, along with my other trading books. Considering the book's small size, it doesn't even make a good, quick referrence guide as it is so basic. Considering the author claims to be a teacher (mentions having writen the book primarily so her students would have a text to use in her teaching sessions), one would think the practice of trading would have been more succinctly laid out. Even the website is a hollow offering of information that already peppers the Internet, along with the demo account offers by trading brokers and charting companies. The book is not completely without merit. If you have no idea about what trading even is, the text is a sufficient starter for introducing the reader to the overall concept (thus the 3 stars). If looking for something more, I recommend getting a good book on technical analysis trading. Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques by Steve Nison is also a well deserving classic. It doesn't matter whether the books are geared towards trading forex, stocks or futures. Trading is trading and the technical analysis is applicable to all.
Rating: Summary: A very narrow scope of forex but well described Review: The author stated that her goal in writing this book was to imagine that if she suffered total amnesia, she could read her book and be able to successfully trade forex again. A worthy goal but she fell very far short. The book is quite short. She covers the basics such as describing the main currency pairs and telling how to draw trend lines. She attempts to outline a clear trading strategy for swing trades but her description is vague. There are very few chart examples given and never does she actually picture a chart with a buy/sell point shown. Still, the book reads well and it is nice to have a simple description of a few basic technical points of trading forex.
Rating: Summary: Trading the Forex Market Review: The book was worth the money as well as the time to read and study it. I have traded futures but am newly introduced to the Forex. I learned a lot of basics and insights relative to the unique aspects of Forex and swing trading and momentum trading. Raghee gives a lot of practical advice.
Rating: Summary: A tutorial of drawing trendlines Review: This book would be great if it was titled "Drawing Trendlines in the Forex Market" and you were interested in this style of forex trading. As I am not, I got nothing much out of this book. The author states in an interview at the back that she 'naturally gravitated toward these tools (wave, trendlines, support, resistance, and fibonacci) because these were the first that I learned'. I really have no idea why the author has chosen to limit her analytical toolset to be so basic and subjective. Backtesting is a concept that appears to be frowned upon in this book.
In summary, if you love subjective analysis of forex charts, with your ruler out, then this book is for. If, like me, you prefer to run thousands of backtests using powerful software, utilising the most advanced and sophisticated techniques (such as neural networks, and genetic algorithms), then buy a book that explains the ideas and concepts behind techniques and indicators that can be used in such software programs, or better still, just get some software and read its help file, along with free information available on the internet.
Rating: Summary: This is the one! Review: This is the one I wish I had read fifteen years ago! It is all here, in one place, everything you could need to be profitable in any market. Her systems are not limited to FOREX, but apply to any market in any timeframe. I am primarily a swing and momentum trader, and have read dozens of books, some of them were even worth it. There is nothing else on the market like this one, at least none that I have seen.
She speaks like a teacher, and obviously enjoys what she is doing. Her perspectives are really unique, and her techniques are presented in a clear and understandable manner. The charts could have been bigger, however, they are kind of "squinty." That aside, I reccomend this book to anyone at any level, and of any market interest. This is not just another technical trading book, but one that presents a coherent trading system that is obviously profitable.
