Summary: The Present
Review: The Present rises above touchy-feely gobbledy gook. In an easy read, it gives us a glimpse into how to enjoy life right now. The parable is impactful and memorable. I recommend this book to anyone who is ready to accept responsibility for their life and take control of it. While you're at it, read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to gain an understanding of how to be independent and then interdependent. And do not miss reading Optimal Thinking--How To Be Your Best Self to acquire the "mental software" to make the most of every situation and optimize your emotional and financial intelligence.

Summary: What a way to make a difference
Review: The Present truly is that, a neat story that goes so much deeper than you'd think for 107 pages. While the format of a Young Person learning from an Older Person is familiar, this book presents it in a beautiful way. It is neither treacly nor patronizing, and anyone can find wisdom and comfort in it. Perhaps the best feature is that, like many of us, the student does not find a snap-you-fingers solution. He realistically must struggle with questions, self-doubt and confusion before finally finding The Present and being able to pass the gift to others.

The first book I thought about when I read it was Shel Silverstein's classic The Giving Tree. The Present could well be another classic.

Summary: Today, now is every day Happiness
Review: This fairy tale of Spencer Johnson, made me admire this guy for his easy way to express deep and trascendental mysteries of life.
I loved the book because in a very simple, fast and didactic way I got all the points in which I should work every day in order to enjoy the life that I have, to find the beauty of what I have in my hands.
He anticipates to my questions about past and future.
What do I do with my past? Is easy to say:..." learn from it", oh yeah.. but why we use this redundant phrase?
He made me noticed that it is because we want our future to be better!! So he connects the 3 threats (past-present-future) and conviced me to maintain my attention in this moment, live with a purpose, and plan my future.

The name "The Present" refers to the gift we give to our selves, i.e. the opportunity to discover that now, in this present moment we are already happy and complete, if I don't feel it is because my attention is not here and now.

I strongly believe that either the author has read tons of information about the topic, or he has experienced this "enlightment" already! Great little book!

Summary: EASY TO READ! GREAT MESSAGE!
Review: This is a great book that really helps us see what is really important in life. Using a phenomenologial apprach to life, the author uses a dialogue format to show us that the present moment is where everything is at. Very simple to read and easy to understand. If you'd like to examine these things in more detail and look at these things from a big-picture perspective, I'd suggest another fascinating book called 'The Ever-Transcending Spirit' by Toru Sato. It's a bit of a longer read but definitely worth it if you are truly interested in the pursuit of happiness.

Summary: Simplistic, but thoughtful.
Review: This is a very instructive and simple way to explain to readers the value of the present and its relationship to the past and future. Any person who truthfully puts these simple instructions into practice would have achieved a lot in his/her everyday life.

The author has achieved another tour de force in bringing up simple concepts in life and raising awareness about these issues.

Summary: I like books like these
Review: This is another in the genre of uplifting books. It's right up there with my favorite book in this catagory, The Little Guide To Happiness. It's got the same type of motivational encouragement that makes you want to get up in the morning.

Summary: To Be Happy and Successful, Be Present
Review: To fully understand and appreciate this book, you must be ready for it. A strange thing to say, you think. I appreciated this book except for the constant intonation of the word "Present".Unfortunately, I find myself mentioning the word many times in the writing of this review. I have to do it, I can't help myself. This would be a five star book if I could think of a way to avoid using "Present". I can't so this is it.

Spencer Johnson, author of "Who Moved My Cheese" has written a book that sends a simple but complex message. In this book, Spencer Johnson tells a story of an old man and his relationship and communication with a young boy that lasts throughout his life to that of a grown man.

The old man has offered the young boy A Present. The boy who is busy playing and then busy with chores listens and then goes on with his life. He thinks of the Present frequently as he grows older. One day the thought of The Present brings him back to the old man where they talk about The Present and what it means. Throughout this book, The Present is explored in many ways. It is not a physical thing but a feeling, a thought, a memory, a decided method to help focus on what is important, what is necessary to help make you happy and successful.
We need to fully understand how our actions play in our life. By focusing on the Present, What Is Right Now, and using purpose to respond to what is important right now we can become happy and successful.

We often need to look at what happened in the past to learn something valuable from it, so that we can do things differently in the Present.

And when we want to make the future better than the Present, we need to see what a wonderful future would look like. We need to make plans to help this happen, and put our plan into action in the Present.

All of these moments that we reflect upon can be used to help us understand where we came from, what we want and where we are right now. As I said we need to be ready to fully understand these simple truths. Some are skeptics, but the truth is there and available for them when they need it and are open to it.

The Past and the Future depend upon The Present. Gotcha! prisrob
