Rating: Summary: The type pf book to be read multiple times. Review: This is the type of book you keep on your shelf and read again and again. I'm on my fourth reading and each time the learning becomes more valuable than the previous. The first reading gave me a broad understanding of the game, some of the formulas of the technical indicators seemed a little dry for the novice. But now I am so thankful for the formulas, they are the most treasured part of the book. I have used the formulas to plot my own graphs with my spreadsheet and have developed my own triple screen trading system witch is a system that isn't based on blind faith but a through understanding (which leads to confidence)of each indicator. So many people trade based on using an EMA or Stochastics or MACD, but what actually is it? Buy this book and stop placing confidence and relying on other peoples data feeds and opinions, gain confidence and grow from within, trade from stable ground, your own. All the information you need to build a trading system can be found in this book along with the psychological aspect needed to trade it.
Rating: Summary: First Couple Chapters are Great Review: The first couple chapters are great, but the remainder is more filler, at least in my case. I am familiar with technical analysis and fundamental analysis, so I was looking for more on market psychology. The first couple chapters were great in that respect and make the book worth purchasing, but you might end up skimming the rest.
Rating: Summary: For Serious Traders! Review: This was a recent re-read of mine, and I am glad I took it off the shelf. The downside of this book is the cost. If you are not serious about trading for a living then buy one of the ra ra trading books for $15. If on the other hand you are thinking about telling your boss he won't be seeing you at the next Christmas party, then buy this book.Trading for people who don't know is one of the hardest things you will ever do. You compete against people who are faster, smarter and richer than you. Elders book gives you some great insight on selecting a strategy that fits you, dealing with losses, and general psychology as it relates to trading. This is one of the few books that will pay dividends well in excess of it's price.
Rating: Summary: Best Book on Trading and Market Psychology Review: An excellent book on market psychology and basic technical analysis. Called the "bible" of serious traders. Covers the 3 M's of trading: Mind, Method, and Money.
Rating: Summary: A very good book for a good Trading Review: Dr. Elder's book provide an almost perfect foundation for the novice or even perhaps the more experience investor. Like the most basics interpretation of drawing a Trendline he wrote:"It's better to draw support and resistance lines across the edges of congestion areas instead of extreme prices".(Extreme prices reflect panics among the weakest traders, while edges shows the masses of traders that changed their minds). If you trade long enough you know that this is true. He also explained and draw "Kinds Of Divergence" which is very important for any oscillators interpretation including RSI and stochastics. I found that his explanation in this subject more focus and better than John Murphy's book The Visual Investor, or Martin Pring's book or even Perry Kaufman's Trading System. Finally for those who are planning or just started as an investor or trader please read these 4 books first before you invest in your hard earned money: 1.& 2. Both of Dr. Elder's book (incl his study guide)It helps you a lot to measure the power of the chart pattern through his explanation on oscillators) 2. Japanese Candlestick by Steve Nison (It helps you to success in short-term and medium-term investment, also helping to make an entry or exit point at the general chart pattern, when you have doubt in making a decission) 3. Encyclopedia of Chart Pattern by Thomas N Bulkowski (This book is for a medium or longer-term investment, also a very excellent book in chart pattern). Finally I wish you all, success in investing to have a financial freedom.
Rating: Summary: Has more trading common sense than any other book on trading Review: This is truly a unique book in that it contains more common sense about trading than any other book written on the subject. Few books on trading encompass the psychological aspect as well as the technical as this one. The examples and charts are cogent and add a lot of value to the text. This is truly a classic!

Dr.Elder lays out the three essentials of becoming a successful trader: Mind, Method and Money Management. Mind: The psychological aspect of trading. Tells you to observe your own emotions as you trade. Method: Technical analysis- almost every major indicator is discussed here. Money Management: Gives you some tips on how much to risk.
Rating: Summary: Very good for novices Review: I was fortunate enough to listen to Alex in Moscow in 1996 where he was conducting a serie of seminars. 5 years ago I was a novice in trading and I remember that we were listening him with "open mouses" (I don't know the English analogue to this Russian expression). Of course, all of us found his ideas very useful and helpful. And I would strongly recommend this book to everybody who does not have enough experience in day and short-term trading. But when you gain several years (and tears) of personal experience, and still are alive and content with this job, you should certainly read more advanced books.
Rating: Summary: Integrating Technical Analysis with Dow Theory Review: This book is a gem for anyone seriously interested in trading. Dr. Elder provides a thorough and systematic review of the fundamentals of technical analysis. Dr. Elder's intriguing insights on market psychology are integrated with basic technical analysis throughout the book. The book is a bit too detailed for the novice trader, but provides an excellent foundation for traders who have a basic understanding of trading fundamentals.
Rating: Summary: Buy this one! Review: As I worked on my book, "Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns" (Wiley, 2000), I referred to a few books in my research. TFAL was one of them. The figures appear clear, the prose concise, bold text for important words, highlighted trading rules -- it's all there. The book is an easy read, packed with trading tips and general information. It is no wonder that the book has sold so well. Flaws? Sure, but I'll not offer them here. Any quibbles I have relate to differences in trading style. This book is well worth the price and makes a fine addition to the bookshelf of novice or serious investors alike...
