Rating: Summary: Baka Review: A definite must read for anyone alive today
Rating: Summary: Good reference but a bit dry Review: A great book for beginners. This teaches you most of the basics like how our money system works, the federal reserve, how bills are printed, destroyed, what all the markings and numbers mean on bills and checks, how stocks and the stock market work, etc. It gets a bit dry at points but this was written as more of a reference manual than a how-to, so you can't expect it to be entertaining on every page, especially when dealing with some fairly dry topics!
Rating: Summary: Cliff Notes on Finance Review: A small book filled with interesting tidbits about money. Still, it seemed as trite and superficial as the people who actually manage investments for a living. Okay, as an intro, but more of a stocking stuffer.
Rating: Summary: Getting Long in the Tooth Review: A terrific primer, concise and grahically excellent, but starting to show it's age -- primarily because it was published in 1993 before the Internet began to change everything on Wall Street.
Rating: Summary: The Wall Street Journal Guide to Understanding Money & Inves Review: An excellent book for those who want to broaden their knowledge about finance markets. A concise guide to everything related to money and finance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You won`t be disappointed...
Rating: Summary: Helpful Review: As a former broker now trainer I found this book helpful in training others in the basics of investing. I have recommended this book several times to new investors trying to get a better picture of complicated securities world.
Rating: Summary: A great primer for the new investor. Review: As a professional financial advisor, I consider "The Wall Street Journal Guide" the best primer on investment vehicles. I send a copy to all my new clients and keep one on my desk. Even I, who handle investments and financial plans every day, use the guide now and again as a quick and easy reference. Take it from this financial advisor, if you are intending to buy stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, this book is well worth the money. It's a good investment itself!
Rating: Summary: A Nice, Concise Introduction to Finance and Markets Review: As a starting point for someone unfamiliar with finance and financial markets, this book is excellent. It uses plain, simple language to explain the workings of money, finance, and the stock market. However, beore you run out and invest the farm based on what you read here, understand it is only an introduction. If there is a criticism of the book, it is that it is somewhat lightweight on financial advice, but then again,it is not a financial advice book. It is essentially an introduction and primer on how the stock market works. And that is all it should be used for as some of its discussions of what the ebbs and flows of the stock market mean are highly generalized. So, if you need to understand the jargon and obtain a grasp of how the markets work, start here. Just don't let this be your first and last read before you dive into the financial markets.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: As many have said in their reviews, this is a great starting point for those new to investing and financial markets. In fact, it's the best I've ever found and I've looked a lot. The simple, plain English explanations are what makes this book stand out. For the nuances and more detailed information regarding the topics in the book, look to a textbook from a college finance class. But for the person who knows very little, start with this.
Rating: Summary: This is My Bible Review: Even now, after much study of investing, I always come back to this book for clarification. Consider this book as the very basic starting point for all other investing knowledge. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS BOOK!!!!
