Rating: Summary: A Gift Review: I don't gamble but I got this as a gift and it was extremely entertaining. The stories this guy tells of the day to day stuff that goes on in a bookie's life is un-freakin'-believable. It's like a he's this big criminal or something and he walks around all day and everybody knows he's a criminal, but nobody cares. He even had policemen that were clients. I don't plan on starting gambling but it's just a funny as hell and really entertaining book. I read it just for the stories and it was G R E A T!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing.. Review: I had fairly high hopes for this book after reading the online reviews. What a letdown. Don't expect to learn anything that will help you gamble. The most interesting part of bookmaking--making and moving lines--is glossed over (author mentions software to retrieve lines from online sources). Instead, the book is full of inane details such as which color pen to write with while taking bets.If you are looking for a condescending read describing how to run an illegal business which will continue to become less and less profitable as online casinos flourish, this is the book for you. If you're looking for a book to teach you about sports betting, I would recommend Stanford Wong's "Sharp Sports Betting".

Rating: Summary: unbelivable Review: i had NO idea all these things went on at a bookies office. i thought he just gave out the lines and you told him what you wanted. this has opened my eyes to all kinds of things i never even knew happened in betting. this is a good book. you should buy it if you bet on sports i know it has already made me money just off of reading the first two chapters. i recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have read on playing Review: I have been around the game for about 15 years and there are things in here that make a lot of sense but I have just never thought about them probably because I nevef looked at playing from the bookies end. The section about settling up on tuesday instead of monday and what that does to the line for Monday Night Football is exactly what I have gone through for 15 years and never even knew what was happening. I liked that part and chapter 6 about betting exotics on the Super Bowl it was a great book in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Good Enough For Me Review: I saw it mentioned in Sports Illustrated and it gave it a good review so i figured i'd buy it. it was a good buy it has seriously changed what i call in each week. seeing it from the side of the bookie let me know what they love me to play and what i have a better chance of winning on. I'm glad i got the book. If its good enough for Sports Illustrated i guess it was good enough for me and it was.
Rating: Summary: Finally it has arrived! Review: I thought the day would never come, but our good day is upon us. A real book about the truth of a bookmaking office. If you want the real deal I cannot recomend this book enough. It covers all the logicistics of running a book and not to mention the best explantion of how sports betting works.
Rating: Summary: It has worked with baseball so far. Review: I'm looking forward to using it once football starts. I have been winning this baseball season so I'm really waiting for football to put the rest of the book to use. No complaints from me. I usually get run over during baseball but I have been taking the money this season so its been a good purchase for me.
Rating: Summary: Holy Crap Review: I've got no idea what to type here other than this book is freakin' great. My man has screwed me left and right all the ways this book tells about. I know a whole lot more now and have actually started to win now because I know how he is doing it. It's like having a guide to used car salesmen or plumbers or something. I know the tricks, tips, scams, and inside stuff. There is another review I read before I bought the book and I have to borrow from it: "THANK YOU, Jeffries!!"
Rating: Summary: Damn Good Review: I've just got done reading "The Book on Bookies" and really enjoyed it. He covered just about everything I think you could in the book and it was a great way to pass time on the plane. It has renewed my commitment to taking a pile of my man's money this season and I am really glad I got the book. When is the next edition?!!
