Rating: Summary: Save your money. Review: Just bought a copy "The Truth About Ebay" and after 3 pages knew I had made a mistake. There is nothing new here and if you have done any buying or selling on Ebay you probably know more about it than the author. Poorly written and poorly organized with many glaring grammatical mistakes. Doubt that it was ever proofread. The publisher should be ashamed. He spends a lot of time warning about unscrupulous sellers. Somebody should have warned us about him.
Rating: Summary: The Truth About "The Truth About eBay Review: Many errors make this a hard to read book. The list of resources in the back include web pages that don't work and maybe never have. At one point he refers to the current craze for the spice girl dolls even though the book is copywritten in 2003 showing that it obviously took a long time to publish. He didn't even bother to update his information. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. There is some good info in it but get it from the library.

Rating: Summary: The worst book I've ever read Review: This book is poorly done and isn't worth the paper it's printed on. The number of grammatical errors and typos in the book is beyond belief. The book lacks any kind of structure and the author more or less rambles incoherently half of the time. The other half he is trying (unsuccessfully) to convince the reader that this isn't a get rich quick scheme. This book is as close as you can get to reading an infomercial. There is little in the way of useful information and all of that can be found for free on the internet (particularly on ebay). If you want a good book about selling online, get Stephen Windwalker's The Complete Guide to Bookselling At Amazon's Marketplace and Other Online Site. It deals with books, but the knowledge he relates is practical and could be applied to nearly anything besides books.
Rating: Summary: A Must Book For Anyone Desiring An E-Commerce Site Review: This book is written for those who just want to make extra money or the person who wants to make an eBay career. The book does cover the basics of eBay selling but more importantly focuses attention on the concept of the entrepreneur. Yes, selling on eBay makes you a business person just as much so as the brick and mortar store owner. This book will take you step by step to become a successful eBay business person.
The book covers business plans, what to sell and how to research what you would like to sell, finding a niche and marketing techniques. The appendix of the book is filled with a listing of wholesalers. I have checked and these are legitamite businesses. The listing of wholesalers alone is worth the price of the book.
If you want to be successful at any level this book wil be a tremendous asset for you as you start your eBay business.
Rating: Summary: Editorial Review from Web Master Review: This is a nuts and bolts approach to perhaps the greatest online phenomenon of the web. This book is chock-full of tips, resources and hard-to-find wholesale distributors. You will gain months, perhaps even years of eBay selling experience by reading Dony Lowy's publication. If you are serious, or even playing with the idea of selling (or buying) on eBay, 'The Truth About eBay' is a must read.
Rating: Summary: This Book Should Receive NO Stars!!! Review: This is without a doubt the worst book I've ever purchased. The positive reviews listed here are probably plants of the author. This book is so bad, I couldn't believe any reputable publisher would have anything to do with it. Then I looked to see who the publisher was and it all suddenly made sense. This is a self-published book (through a "vanity press"). So just how bad could it be? First of all, the text section is only 94 pages long. The remaining 64 pages is a list of what is supposed to be wholesale distributors. Many of the websites listed for these are not valid. (The link for the author's own website doesn't work, either.) The links which do work are for businesses which would be entirely unuseful as a source of merchandise to sell on eBay. But does the book contain ANYTHING helpful or particularly insightful? Not a bit! The first thing you might notice about this book is that it does not have a table of contents (nor an index, for that matter). This makes sense, because there are no chapters in this book. Just 94 pages of ramblings, typographical errors, misspellings, misplaced headers and paragraphs, and seemingly plagiarized instructions. Lowy's big suggestion for making your ads stand out? Use all caps. Oh, yeah, that's exactly what makes YOU click on an ad, isn't it? Among his suggestions of what to sell: Your grandmother's chocolate chip cookie recipe. Lowy's "success" examples currently do not have items for sale on eBay. Lowy seems to have an identity crisis when he describes how half.com works. In some places he refers to them as "us," as if he works there. Or, more likely, as if he copied down instructions word-for-word from their website and didn't even bother to change them into the third person. For example, he says, "As soon as someone's bought one of your items, we'll send you an email." In Lowy's closing comments, he says, "Forget that your customers have a strong sense of fair play." Did he even TRY to proofread this thing? It's not just a bad book. It's the ROUGH DRAFT of a bad book. If you want to learn about eBay, read their FAQ and you will easily learn much more than this book presents. Or buy any other book about eBay. Nothing could POSSIBLY be worse than this.
Rating: Summary: Don't wast your time or money Review: THis over simpified book has nothing of value in it. If you think that
1. having good pictures
2. Be honest
3. Know E-bays policies
is important information then buy this book. To me it is nothing but common sense and I could not be more disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money! Review: This was the most disorganized book I've ever read. It has no valuable or original info. I'm an Ebay novice and I know more about selling on Ebay then this author. Stay away!
Rating: Summary: Part time profits Review: While most people considering buying this book are not looking to sell on ebay full time, the book still has plenty of value to them as the title indicates. I know of people who use ebay to raise some extra cash or to hold virtual garage sales to sell some of their stuff. In both cases they are using ebay to make an extra few hundred dollars when they need the money. While its great being able to make that extra money I think those people would be able to make more from their auctions if they used some of the advice given in the Truth about ebay. I think if they wrote a college course on selling on ebay they should use this book as a reference.
