Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thorough and complete reference
Review: I you need to accomplish things with asp.net, this book covers almost every topic. Not only is everything in there, but it's very thorough and complete. Clean, concise examples of everything too.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great introduction to ASP.NET
Review: I had been programming in ASP with VBScript for years. When the time came to change to ASP.NET I bought this book. It's very clear, easy to follow, well written, and very comprehensive. It comes with a huge number of examples, all of them working. It's targeted to Visual Basic programmers, not covering C#, but that was exactly what I was looking for. The chapters on ADO.NET, Web Services, and security are specially interesting.

If you need to learn ASP.NET from an ASP background, this is definitively the book.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: If you are a (pre .NET) VB programmer and want to get started fast on ASP .NET using VB .NET, then this book is just for you. It is well written and well structured, so you find the things you want where you'd expect them to be, and understand them, too!

It doesn't rely on MS VSNET, so you can actually do everything with a text editor, but it does show how things are done with VS.

The examples not only clarify the points being made, they also are well chosen and are really useful, saving you lots of time when programming your own apps.

All in all, a GREAT book. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Not Updated for Final Release
Review: I purchased this book with the assurance that it had been updated for the final ASP.NET release. This is NOT ture. The infomation and examples are still based on pre-release code. After reader a section, I try out the example and find it will not run.

I contacted the publisher and they indicated this has been a problem with the author who has refused to do the work. They offered me my money back which I did not take as I still find value in the book as long as I check the up to date syntax.

Summary: Finally! a GOOD one
Review: This is a big fat book I can use. I was having a hellova time getting started with .net even after three classes. I needed more than building adventure game apps. This book got me pulling data into web interfaces fast. thank you, thank you, thank you. This book is for meat and potato generalists like me who are lost in advanced tomes and have to get the job done - now!

Summary: The ONLY book I use... mostly.
Review: I received this book as part of a 5-day class I took on ASP.NET, and it's practically the only book I use. It's rare that an answer isn't somewhere in the pages of this book. It has great reference sections in the back for HTML and Web controls, and the chapters are full of information that you'll actually use. The book is written assuming you have some background in programming, but aren't an expert.

The only complaint I have is that he's actually published code with "response.write"s in it.

Summary: Another Unleashed book worth it's weight
Review: So many computer books must sell on weight because they are filled with unnecessary bumph to add padding. This book (like many from the latest Unleashed series) is filled with content! It is a great Tutorial style book with lots of helpful examples and more importantly helpful explanations of the examples written in clear English. Why only 4 stars? No C# code.

Summary: Clear & Deep
Review: I have finished 2 parts of this great book. It is really clear book that put my hand on the power of the ASP.Net.
This book is great for VB Developers, From beginers to Advanced ones..
the only thing I don't like in this book it that it didn't go through the code behind a lot. also not going of using Visual Studio.Net for editing and developing the ASP.Net pages..
but still it is one of the best.

Summary: Great book, but...........
Review: Like most everyone else has said, this is a great book, but I have two problems with it, which is why I didn't give it five stars.

#1) No CD-ROM. In the book, the author states you can go to his website and download a zip file that contains all the source. Fine. I went to the website, found no zip file, but did find that every example in every chapter has it's own webpage. Now, you would have to be a masochist to go to every single webpage just to download every example out of the book. That kind of thing just frustrates me. Look, let's not kid ourselves. People buy a computer book with a CD-ROM for one reason. They want to get up to speed as soon as they can, and they want to pull code off the CD and modify it to fit the project they're currently on, so they can look a genius at work. I mean, let's be honest.

#2) What's this about Notepad? The author begins the book by saying that he is assuming everyone will be using Notepad as their editor. Well, I've never known anyone who was crazy enough to routinely use Notepad as their programming editor. When I buy a book based on a Microsoft technology, I want references to the respective Microsoft tool, which in this case is the Visual Studio.NET IDE.

Have said all this, the author is a great writer and is very clear in his style. It's still a great book to learn from and keep as a reference. Just know these two things going in.
