Rating: Summary: The best biographical sketch of Buffett that I've read Review: This is a great book that outlines Buffett's life and the way he accumulated his wealth. I hated to see the book end - I couldn't put it down. You can also learn Buffetts investment philosophy and approach to capitalism. One very small criticism is that Solomon section was a bit long. The best book I've read on Buffett and I've read them all.
Rating: Summary: the jedi knight of the Ben Graham & Fisher Schools Review: Before I've read any of the Buffett's records, I was brainwashed by the B-school's currently dominating "efficient market" doctrine. Buffett's records really changed my reviews on finance and investment. This book clearly explains the way Mr. Buffett conducts business and how is it so different from the conventional wisdom, yet so sensible and logical that the investing records of Buffett have been exceptional. I totally recommend this book as the author did a really good job in describling Mr. Buffett's history in investing, as well as his private life. It seems to me the investment philosophy of Buffett is so simple that it looks "easy" to achieve. I hope the author could explain more on what it really takes to do something like that. It's anything but easy.
Rating: Summary: This was the best book on investing I've ever read. Review: This is a truly excellent look into the mind of the greatest stock market investor of our time. Most fascinating is how the author manages to make you feel as though you can completely understand everything there is to know about Buffett the man and Buffett the investor. I can not recommend any book more highly.
Rating: Summary: Interesting at points, but generally tedious. Review: Were it not for the nature of his specialty--making lots of money through intelligent investments--Warren Buffett might well be considered an idiot savant. Instead, because he is inordinately wealthy, he is viewed by his admirers as something of a demigod.Mr. Lowenstein is one of those admirers. Despite the rather clear evidence that Mr. Buffett's personal life is a shambles, Mr. Lowenstein describes it in the most glowing terms. Hey! If you're rich, you must be happy! As far as Mr. Buffett's investment philosophy is concerned, Mr. Lowenstein provides much useful background information and makes the point that it has evolved over time. In other words, like any other professional, he thinks about what he is doing. Personally, I found "The Midas Touch" by John Train and Buffett's own letters to the shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway (which are available in book form) more interesting and useful. They're also much more concise.
Rating: Summary: Could'nt put it down Review: This is by far the most enjoyable informative work I have read on the subject. I am loathe to read anyhing more on Buffett for fear of changing my perceptions of this top class human being.
Rating: Summary: A good account of an investing master Review: This book was great in all respects excepting for his treatment of Buffett as a philanthropist. I think Lowenstein gave Buffett too large a heart. Though certainly not as greedy as others, the man would rather keep money in Berkshire Hathaway than give to those who really need it.
Rating: Summary: Buffett: A Great Investor With Character & Value Stocks Review: A very easy to read biography about Warren Buffett, an investor with character and the gift to invest in stocks of long term quality. The author, Roger Lowenstein, also has a clear gift too...for writing. Well done.
Rating: Summary: The best business and investing book I have ever read Review: This is the only book you should read about Warren Buffet. Very thoroughly researched, the story is told with just the right amount of detail. This is the only book on Buffet in which the reader actually learns exactly how Warren Buffet goes about finding under-valued companies and investing for the long-term. It is the story of one man's rise to the pinnacle of the business world. It is a good read for students of finance and a must for anyone saving for retirement.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for anyone involved in the stock markets Review: Having read quite a few books on investments and security analysis, I clearly consider this book to be one of the most enjoyable and well-written ones, offering deep insight into what seems to be a winning strategy towards the stock market. The Buffett-way of investing is not merely presented as a series of successful buy/hold/sell actions but is rather linked to his extraordinary personality and syllogistic, thus providing not only a very good methodology on stock market investments but also a character-shaping manual. Fully recommended if you want a profitable course in the stock market....
Rating: Summary: Excellent story on how Buffet built an empire from nothing. Review: As a novice investor, I found this story to be a very good lesson on how to value companies and ultimately stocks. As an unexpected bonus, it turned out to be an engaging story of one man's life from paperboy to becoming the wealthiest man in America. I bought it as a reference book of sorts and turned out to have acquired an entertaining story as well.
