Summary: A lovely person, not a great book
Review: First, let me say that I am sure Sherri Van Houten is a wonderful person, and has great conviction to her source and to her expression...but this book lacks. I too am a bellydancer and came to the dance through a spiritual connection with the feminine face of God (The Goddess). Bellydance is a moving meditation and prayer, of communion with creation, the Creator, and of our own feminine ability to create and bring forth. I had hoped that this book would be a source that would help me to delve further into the spiritual side of the dance, and to live deeper in my connection to it. I just wasn't "feeling it." The book was mostly centered on a Judeo-Christian theme, and was mostly defending of the author with Biblical passages, and rants regarding church leaders. I understand that perspective, but it severely lessened and limited the celebration of spirit, life, and connection to the Divine that I wished she would have expressed. Maybe the author's next book will let go of the anger and hostility towards the politics of religion and share with us the deep abiding connection to bellydance as a true path to the Divine. Blessings!
