Summary: Ellenthal Shines
Review: Ellenthal's former work didn't do any justice to literary facility. In Slootie's Wars however, readers are treated to Ellenthal's true abilities. Narrating in short, but succinct form, we get a son's heartfelt recollection of his father's exceptional life. A tougher than tough individual to all who encountered his character, Slootie lived by a set of morals and values all his own - like it or not. His stern self-possession was never penetrated by those not of blood relative, and sometimes even kin felt his reticent quality. He loved to smoke cigars, gamble and fight, but the actions of which never impressed any hazardous repercussions upon his family. At first you will consider Slootie the type of man who you could never warm to, but through Ellenthal's memoir the exact opposite begins to happen. You will begin to become fond of Slootie for the importance he placed on everyday principles. Turn up for work every day, provide for your family in every way and always fight for what you believe in come across as Slootie's strongest traits. What makes for a fast paced and interesting read is the way in which Ellenthal recounted how his father took these basic standards and interpreted them in a way all his own. You'll want to know more, you'll search for a sequel...and as with your other favorite reads, that's what makes Slootie's Wars a triumph.

Summary: what a great read!
Review: I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I picked up this book. But once I started I just couldn't stop. The characters and situations made me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. Read this book, it's a wonderful insight into a time gone by about a man larger than life.
