Rating: Summary: Inspiration in this time of anxiety Review: This is a marvelous book. The author's story is unique and beautifully told.In this post-9-11 period of war and suffering for Americans here and abroad Jackie Bong Wright's account of her life in VietNam-growing up and growing into the loss of her husband,a leading figure in the struggle for democracy in that war torn country cruelly assassinated just as he was to take high political office-is truly inspiring. To survive the conflict in her country was miraculous. To then come to the USA and rebuild her life,to devote herself fully to the support of other refugees from the war is extraordinary. This is the account of several, still evolving and highly productive lives, lived by an exceptional womanwho is even now in her adopted country an effective political organizer on behalf not only of VietNamese immigrants but of Asians generally who have come to our shores looking for a better life ;and in particular the women of those communities who deserve our respect and admiration.I am happy to have read this account of a life long struggle for peace and justice as well as a fascinating account -so different from what we are used to reading in analyses of the VietNam war-of the every day life in a country that was far more "advanced" culturally and in political sophistication than I had ever imagined.I highly recommend the book
