Summary: Dr. Bebe Patten, a winner of the Gold
Review: "Winning the Race" is the definitive biography of America's most prominent female evangelist in the second half of the 20th century, Dr. Bebe Patten. Researched and written by Glenn E. Kunkel, this impressive book illumines the rich odyssey of Dr. Patten's life and ministry with original photos of religious revivals in Oakland to the building of Christian Cathedral and the creation of Patten College. To the author's credit, the book does not gloss over the challenges and difficulties that Dr. Patten had to surmount. In keeping with the metaphor of "winning the race," there are times we face unexpected roadblocks, detours, and U-turns on the road to social justice. Back in 1934, Dr. Patten was preaching in favor of racial integration at a time when Sundays were the most segregated times in American Society. And, as a woman preacher, Dr. Patten had to overcome the traditional resistence to women in the pulpit in the established churches. Today, we owe a debt of gratitude for the beachead that Dr. Patten created in race relations and the opportunities that women now enjoy in major denominations can be attributed to the efforts of Dr. Patten. To use a current metaphor in this time of the Olympics, Dr. Patten was won the race and earned the gold

Summary: Do YOU want to be a winner ?
Review: "Winning the Race" is an inspirational biography written by Dr. Glenn Kunkel on the life of Dr. Bebe Patten is an inspiration to many. She can be compared to various persons in the Bible, but I would best compare her to Paul because of the extremely difficult trials she has overcome. For example, her tent was burned down during one of her great tent revivals, (which always attracted thousands of people at a time), as she evangelized in the deep south. She also faced the rejection of her family when she went to Bible college following God's call to the ministry and so much more she had to overcome. Dr. Patten is a rock in the Christian faith. I invite all to read this book and be blessed by her fearless endeavors in the Lord and her passion for God. Dr. Patten has always loved Isreal and the Jewish people. One of her numerous achievments includes a non- Jewish chair with the Bar Ilan University in Israel. Dr. Patten is know worldwide. She founded the Patten Academy, Patten College, and the Christian Cathedral all located in Oakland, California. Follow her life from her olympic swimming days as a young Bebe Harrison, to her conversion experience, to seminary, to preaching in tent revivals as an evangelist. Dr. Patten is also an achieved song writer, musician, mother, teacher, friend, counselor and shepherdess to her sheep. She holds two doctorate degrees a Ph.D and a D.D. This book is amazing! Everyone should read it!

Summary: A Story of Triumphant Faith
Review: Having read many life stories of men and women of faith, I consider this one of the very best. Bebe Harrison faced opposition in her family at age 14 because of her faith in God and her call to the ministry. The dramatic tension between her love for God and her parents reached a climax when God called her to a city 2,500 miles away to prepare to be a preacher (!) and nothing could keep her from going. Bebe clung to God even though it meant losing her home and the support of her family. She gave up her career as a champion long-distance swimmer (her coaches said she was Olympic material)in order to be wholly devoted to God. Bebe ran the spiritual race just as intensely as she had run her swimming races. That was one of the secrets of her success as an independent girl and lady evangelist in the 1930s and 1940s and as the founder and leader Christian Cathedral and Patten Academy, and the founder of Patten College. This story of decision demanded, trials suffered and faith rewarded will be challeng and inspire young and old.

Summary: Do YOU want to be a winner ?
Review: This biography of Dr. Bebe Patten is an exciting testimony of an incredible child of God. Hearing and following God's voice at the age of ten, Dr.Patten is still walking a very intimate walk of Faith over three quarters of a century later. Still preaching annointed sremons every Sunday morning at Christian Cathedral. Still teaching a class every Wednesday night at Patten College. Dr.Patten inspires me deeply. She serves a God who does not fail. Read this amazing life story and be challenged to make a greater commitment to God and His purpose for your life.
