Summary: It's Not Really About Football...
Review: I loved this book about an undefeated, unscored upon high school football team in 1960s Cincinnati, an apt locale between North and South as an integrated team deals with matters of race just as the Nation begins to do so. Mr. Penn shows remarkable skill in capturing a watershed era as he recounts the "perfect" season through human relationships both bitter and sweet. Although football is at the center of the story, all football terms are explained and it is in fact the story of black and white teens, including an interracial love triangle. Let's hope there's more Taylor Penn in our reading future.
