Summary: Great Book of courage: Written from the heart
Review: A heartwarming book. Seeing what our POWs went through during their captivity was eye opening. Colonel Acree, you kept your faith and showed your loyalty and honor to your country and to your fellow Marines. Cindy, you kept your faith and strength and love during this ordeal.

We lost our son, Sgt. Ken Keller, Jr., USMC, in Desert Storm.
Reading this book, I felt a closeness to our son and this made my Mother's Day a peaceful one. Semper Fi

Summary: Magnificent Story
Review: As an Airman at a forward deployed location in the weeks before our nation's up and coming war against Iraq...I stumbled upon this magnificent story. It reminded me of my loved young lady back home in Phoenix, and the whole reason of my being here at our country's time of need. Rest assured that whatever the outcome of this war...our nation will prevail. Thanks.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST POW/WAR STORIES
Review: I have read many POW stories since WWII and this is one of the best. The perspective is a little different as the wife talks a chapter about what is going on at home and then Col. Acree talks about his ordeal while a prisoner of war in Iraq during Desert Storm. The internal fortitude and resolve of Co. Acree is astounding and what he went through is heart rending. At the same time his wife did much in creating a force of help and an attitude of compassion among the entire citizenry of the U.S.A. You will rally 'round the flag after reading this and appreciate the downfall of Hussein!

Summary: The Gulf Between Us: Love and Terror in Desert Storm
Review: I just finished this book and highly recommend it! Both Cliff and Cindy provide a well-written, candid and detailed account of his situation as a POW in Iraq and her actions at home to try to obtain the release of all the POWs. How they each coped in their particular situations as well as their journey together once he returned home is an eye-opener, particularly from the psychological standpoint. Their unique love story is interwoven throughout the book, which adds a very warm, personal touch. I am from San Diego so recall vividly when two of our own -- Cliff Acree and Guy Hunter -- were shot down in Iraq on the second day of the war. I have often wondered what happened after tney returned and it was well worth the 9-year wait to find out! Cliff deserves tribute and recognition for the brutality he endured for us as Americans and for remaining true to his ideals. An excellent book which all Americans should read. P.S. I am not a friend or relative of the Acrees!

Summary: The Story was Inspiring!
Review: Many people would benefit by reading this book. Cliff Acree is quite simply a modern day hero. Reading about how he conducted himself as a prisoner of war was inspiring. It made all the troubles we deal with on a daily basis seem petty and insignificant. While, it might normally take a couple of weeks to read a book of this length; I finished it in just a few days, mostly because after I'd put it down, I'd want to pick it back up and find out what happened next.

Summary: A Story For All Of Us -- For All Time
Review: READ THIS BOOK! Cliff and Cindy's story is a gripping one; it is full of the events that can only be called "heroism under fire". Their situations could not have been seemingly more opposite, yet their approach was EXACTLY the same -- love and duty and honor in all things. It must have been hard to remember when was Cliff was being tortured that his main purpose was to survive and give no information. It must have been excrutiating for Cindy, when the cameras and reporters were crawling over each other and her for a story, that her main purpose was to get her husband and the other POWs home. And how does one deal with the pressing worship of a grateful nation, hungry for heroes? The tales are told in riveting fashion, as the reader is pulled along through every detail of their stories, as if standing in the room as the events unfold. The descriptions are vivid and captivating. You won't be able to put this book down!

Cliff and Cindy weathered "their dessert storm", and survived to tell their story because the seeds of their success were ALWAYS there! They BOTH knew that much might be expected of them; the DIFFERENCE is, they were WILLING -- not to be heroes (though heroes they TRULY are), but to do WHATEVER it took to accomplish the mission before them! Such a thing cannot just be "taught"... it must be LEARNED and LIVED!

Cliff and Cindy ARE heroes, but this book is not JUST about Dessert Storm. It has taken its place alongside those biographies and stories of GREAT men and women that we MUST study if we will ever be ready and willing to take our place in the fight for something bigger than ourselves! If I were a high school or college teacher/professor, I would make this book MANDATORY reading, to show my students that there ARE still heroes, and they come in many forms -- usually when THEY least expect it...

BZ, Cliff and Cindy! Semper Fidelis (the motto of the Marine Corps; it means "Always Faithful") -- for you were, and are true to that which has made the telling of your story possible!

THANK YOU for sharing it with us!

Summary: Wonderful, touching, inspiration
Review: The book was absolutely amazing. I was deeply touched at how the family was able to kepp their faith and hope in such a desperate situation. The faith and hope in love and God is extremely moving in the story. Definately a book to read!

Summary: LET FREEDOM RING
Review: The Gulf Between Us is a real page turner. Col. Acree's captivity experience is extremely detailed and precise. Truly unbelievable and very terrifying. Mrs. Acree does an outstanding job providing the spouses perspective. This book covers it all before, during and perhaps the best part to the book -- the aftermath. The lastings effects of a prisoner of war are perhaps the most noteworthy. This really is a most compelling story. I am grateful to the Acree's for sharing a most tumultuous time of their lives. A Gulf Between Us is a must read for every military family or someone who wants the real story -- no fabrication here!!

Summary: Patriotism Bolstered
Review: Thus is a must-read for every single American. America needs to know what REALLY happened to the Gulf War POW's. You didn't hear about this one on the nightly Gulf War Update! This book oozes with courage, integrity, self sacrifice, love of country, the suffering endured to perserve freedom and the lives of others. The way this book is different is that the reader will actually become part of the book and feel like they personally know the author and her husband. This makes for a more intense read and the feeling that the reader is actually experiencing the same circumtances. I was blown away by this book and my patriotism has received an extra jolt!
