Rating: Summary: Page-turner Review: A superb read deserving such coveted accolades as "riveting," "a real page-turner" and "not-to-be-missed." Each chapter segues into the next so compellingly the book is impossible to put down. Dr. Raskin's dialogue rings true, the people in her life memorable, and her splendid candor a worthy standard for anyone writing a truthful memoir. The Anxiety Expert will find a wide audience, including those who can draw hope from her courage in finding a way through debilitating panic attacks, and those of us yearning for books more fulfilling than fiction.
Rating: Summary: F.M. from Ct. Review: A very well written account of a psychiatrist's journey
through the decades in search of peace and happiness.
It is easy to become immersed in the author's plight and root for her.
Rating: Summary: Reassuring and authoritative Review: As someone with a history of anxiety attacks, I found this book absorbing and reassuring. It is the first-person story of a respected psychiatrist who treats patients with anxiety and panic disorders, all the while fighting her own lifelong battle against these debilitating conditions.
Dr. Raskin's personal quest for recovery led to years of therapy and to revelations, often painful, about repressed episodes in her past. But admirably, she does not try to impose her theories about the sources and treatment of panic disorders on the reader. While she is obviously an expert in the field, the book does not have the know-it-all tone of many books by doctors. Raskin simply tells her own story in a warm, readable voice-- the seemingly normal childhood, failures in marriage and love, life as a single mother and medical professional -- and lets readers gain their own insights through it. By the end, you feel she is someone you would like to know: a nice woman and a good doctor.
Rating: Summary: I am impressed Review: Cannot put your book down. I am riveted,
You are such an amazing woman. I am proud to call you sister.
This is definetly a must read book. For all us who remain silent
in our angst and pain and as adults explore who we truly are.
Rating: Summary: My Review Review: Regardless of whether or not you suffer with this illness, this is a must read book for everyone. Dr. Raskin shares with us her life from childhood to present, including her terrors as well as her many accomplishments. It is extremely well written with many poignant moments we can all relate to. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: J.M. Review Review: The author shares her struggle to deal with anxiety, panic and
inner turmoil which deeply affected her life even as she experienced many successes and accomplishments. This is a readable account by a woman with personal experience as well as
professional expertise in the area of anxiety which may bring hope to many others also caught in the struggle.
Rating: Summary: Gripping Life Story Offers Insight for Anxiety Sufferers Review: This is a must-read for anyone who has suffered from panic attacks or anxiety--or anyone interested in human emotions. The Anxiety Expert is that rare book that combines a moving, true life story and solid advice from a talented psychiatrist. The reader will close this book knowing that there is a real path to healing for people plagued by anxiety. It reads like a fine novel. At the same time, the reader feels this caring doctor taking her hand and showing her the way to emotional healing.
