Rating: Summary: TITANIC's Bandmaster Plays On in Hymn for Eternity! Review: I've waited for a biography on Wallace Hartley, TITANIC's heroic bandmaster, for a long time, and this book has fulfilled my expectations. Ms.Carroll has done astonishing detective work, tracing Wallace forward from his humble beginnings in Colne, Lancashire, through his budding musical career in the North of England and through 80 voyages across the Atlantic, on to his tragic collision with fate -- accepting a last minute request to lead the band on the doomed RMS TITANIC. Ms. Carroll's writing style is engaging and she knows how to build suspense; her book is a real page-turner! People all over the world wept during James Cameron's TITANIC as Hartley and his orchestra played "Nearer My God to Thee." If you're curious about the charismatic young violinist who comforted TITANIC's passengers with music at the cost of his life, I can't recommend this book highly enough!
