Summary: Czeslaw Milosz Gnostic Odyssey...
Review: For students of recently desceased Nobel laureate Czeslaw Milosz, THE LAND of ULRO provides essential background explaining his ultimate rejection of ENLIGHTENMENT rationalism. The irony that its SCIENTISM spawned a Mephistophelian doppelganger in revived Occultism is manifest, disturbing and wickedly amusing. His own initial embrace of gnosticism and the occult is...like St. Augustine's... documented in this CONFESSIONS-odyssey. Like Augustine, Milosz converts to RADICAL CHRISTIANITY. He then commences his mytho-poetic battle against political, and pseudo-religous heresies of the 20th Century.

The violence, despair and utter profanation of life,in Western Civilization--determined to worship itself--is illuminated by...like Dostoyevsky,Swendenborg,Blake and lesser mystical lights...Milosz careful(sometimes dangerous)intellectual journey into The Heart of Darkness. Unlike many who do not return to tell the tale,Milosz recognizes(unlike Adam & Eve)the fruit of The Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil is poisonous, and does not lead to The Tree of Life. The West's untrammeled self-apotheosis is stripped of illusions as incarnated in the abject failure of its CAPTIVE MIND(s). Nietzsche's insanity is revealed;Heiddeger's BEING and TIME manifesto is damned as theology of Nazi anti-Christs and enemies of Humanity.

Students of Czeslaw Milosw brilliant,beautiful,life-and-God affirming poetry will not find THE POET's path description particularly startling. PM pseudo's,however, will blanch in uncomfortable recognition of themselves as condign citizens of Circles One-through-Nine. Finding no comfort in truth espoused by a thinker reluctantly acknowledged genius, DECONSTRUCTION'S hordes, the "men without chests"(C.S.Lewis),nonetheless aesthetically warp speed in rapturous hell trek decadence and culturally fruitless, intellectual onanism.THE LAND OF ULRO is an essay which provides knowledgable readers with opportunity to confront "Ideas" and explore Post-Modernism the way Czeslaw Milosz did. Neither the journey, nor the expression is...as he himself would admit...unique or uniquely profound. But it is honest effort, written by an intellectual giant "standing on the shoulders of giants"; a worthy vision espoused to friends and enemies of TRUTH.
