Rating: Summary: Wanda Landowska was not the only one... Review: A woman of uncommon strength and individuality, Violet Gordon Woodhouse defied convention on every level. She was one of the first harpsichord virtuosos of the twentieth century, when everyone else was playing the piano. Even among harpsichordists, she was unique in that she preferred the historical model to the "improved" Pleyel. She was married yet had many lovers, known and accepted by her husband. Filled with eccentric tales and juicy annecdotes, he book only comes up short in describing her art. A CD is available which will allow you to actually hear the beauty of her playing. These are old recordings with lots of hiss and scratch, but the shimmer and artistry come though.
