Rating: Summary: Every American must read this book. Review: Every American must read this book. Every person that reads this book will gain more respect and adoration for our servicemen/ladies for their sacrifices to protect us, guarantee our freedoms, and possibly give their lives for us, those that they do not know. Sean's detailed journal allowed the author to put us by his side as if we were experiencing what Sean was. It shows us how enormously wise, brave, and disciplined our Military personnel have to become at such young ages to survive many different types of battle and how proud Americans will be of our Military when they read this book. You will feel the happiness, pain, fright, and exhaustion that families go through. It is not just a Military read; it is a brilliantly written story about an exceptionally interesting family and their experiences. This book is above a 5 star rating. This book will make you stand up and cheer for America, our Military, and family values.

Rating: Summary: Extremely Captivating Review: I am impressed. Returning Son is one book I could not put down. It is about what is happing TODAY! The real world, not fiction. It is a book that positively pulls you in to the story and puts you right there. Returning Son involves everyone. Those who have been in the military, or those who know someone in the military. Even those who just have an interest in the war in Iraq. The author gives you insite on what is really going on in boot camp and then in Iraq. The hell, frustration and family ties. It's about TODAY. A book like no other.

Rating: Summary: 3 questions to ask your children are revealed in this book.. Review: Returning Son is colorfully written and so highly detailed that you are pulled into the Cassedy's lives as if you are part of the family, feeling every emotion. Returning Son teaches us the value of strong family foundations and the importance of interaction with our children as parents. This is a magnificent story about an average American family and their struggles to survive. This is a story about extraordinary parents that ask their children to mold their futures by answering 3 important questions. This is absolutely a 5 star book that should be read by all, especially to find out the 3 questions.
Rating: Summary: You will find yourself in the desert tasting the sand Review: The book "Returning Son" by Dennis W. Shepherd captured the essence of our small town of Bagdad. As I was reading, I lost myself in the desert, I tasted the sand, I smelled the odor of death, I cried, and I smiled. The transport from the safety here to the fear there was accomplished by the fluent storytelling and research by the author. I compare "Returning Son" to the elegant but straightforward book "To Kill a Mockingbird". This book is a must read and made possible because of heroes, all of our American sons and daughters in the Military. This is a five star book.
Rating: Summary: This book makes you think AND touches your heart...... Review: The book RETURNING SON will teach you about two generations of warriors and the two wars of those generations, how each war began, how our warriors were employed, and how they were treated coming home---but this is much more than a history book, a book of facts. This is the story of a young Marine who was part of the march to Baghdad, a comparison of his service to that of his father, the VietNam veteran. This book takes you into the hearts of a Marine and his family, and how his service to his country affects all of those that he loves. We have heard about the events of this war, but have you "been there?" Sean Cassedy's story takes you into the scenes and lets you see through the eyes of one of the many thousands who are serving. This book will appeal to the military parents/families who have lived or are living through a family member's deployment. This book will also be insightful for those of you who may not have someone directly involved. It will help to give you "the heart" to be the support these military families need. This is definitely a five star book and should be read by all.

Rating: Summary: Very enlightening about military life, then & now! Review: This is a wonderfully written book! It will touch you emotionally while it educates you about the things our military men & women are facing today. The author also takes you back to a time in the past when our military had no support from home. The "returning son" shows us that marines & soldiers are not always kids who couldn't do much else, he's an intelligent young man that could have done anything and yet he CHOSE to serve his country. This book will enlighten you about what it feels like to have a family member serving. It's a good read for men, women & teenagers.
