Rating: Summary: I know better, cos I am a Kuwaiti /British lived in there Review: I am a kuwaiti one of the elite if you want to call me,and I know for sure that this guy is a Kuwaiti from Iranian blood lines thats why he does not look like an arab because Iranians are not arabs ,look in your encyclopedia before opening your gobs! He is a Kuwaiti a very well known one I may add,and I think it is his choice at this day and age whether he wants to practice Islam or paganism it is not for us to judge him.however I disagree with Kuwaitis getting offended when he left Islam so what?who cares?I don't! and the Kuwaiti goverment are the best one in all the arab countries just look at the women they hold the highest positions in the middle east when their neighbouring counterparts are still locked in a Kitchen bare foot and pregnant.
Rating: Summary: Oo La La Review: I happened once to be a supporter of Robert Hussain's case, and I'm still with freedom of religion and his right to choose his faith. I was as well excited to read his book to know his real story. However, I was greatly dissapointed. Apostate Son is a book of lies and propoganda. It seems that the author has some special problem with Kuwaiti Emir, who actually doesn't do anything in politics. I can't flip a page or two without reading the word "Emir", The Emir's government, the Emir's people, the Emir's cellular phone, the Emir's etc.... He pictured Kuwait's Emir as being the God that all people pray too, which contradicts the reality that all Kuwaiti know, and anyone who have the least information about Kuwait as well. Furthermore, the book is full with lies about Kuwait, it pictures it as a country rules through Dictatorship, everyone is oppressed, and everyone fears the Emir or Kuwait's GOD as he describe him. I wrote to Robert, through usenet and email to challenge him prove most of his book material. Guess what? He never replies because he knows how easily his lies can be defeated. One story of his is about some women gathering infront of the "minister" house as he claim, those women were calling for the minister to help them about their husbands who are prisoned in Iraq (POWs). The minister comes out of his balcony and shouts "YO Women, go back to your homes" and they reply "but we want our husbands who are in Iraq, we seek your help" and the minister replies "GO BACK YOU...". If any minister ever did the above "play" in Kuwait, he would've been kicked from the government the next day if not the same day. Not to mention that The Kuwait elected parliment has already shut down two governments before 1992-1998. Robert could've stayed in Kuwait and the Constititon preserves his rights, but he wanted to become a celebraty for some reason of his own. My final advise to everyone is to obtain some "real" information about Kuwait before reading this book if you want to, or ask Americans who live or used to live in Kuwait and you'll get the truth.
Rating: Summary: A note on an extra resource... Review: I want you to know straight away that I haven't read this book. I am only writing this to point out that if you cannot get hold of this book there is a short account of Robert Hussein's life in Ibn Warraq's book "Leaving Islam", pages 96-98.

Rating: Summary: apostate son Review: i will say i can definately see his book at work here. yes, he bashes islam, but he also bashes his Christian counter-parts back in the states too. the Truth comes from the heart, not pronouncing one's religion preference. his statements like it is a kuwaiti standard to come to work late is a fact, try and get something done here when stores are suppose to be open....not happening. i know it's not the states and i accept it's their country and their ways, but to see how the people act and to read his book...impossible not to question the kuwaiti government. and if kuwait practices religious freedom why does is it illegal to witness to a kuwaiti and you will not see a church building comparable to a mosque in placement or appearance.
Rating: Summary: Deep, honest and from the heart Review: Robert did a wonderful job of getting the story out about how he and Julie were treated. He has so much more to offer and I do hope he writes another book. All the people I have loaned the book to and rercieved feed back on have found the book Apostate Son accurate. Robert does not pull punches about what has happened to him,his children, nor Julie. I have nothing but praise for that kind of courage. It was neat the way he did not criticize only the Government of Kuwait or the Muslim, he put the truth out about everybody. Thank You Robert
