Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must
Review: "Portrait in Motion," essentially a diary kept by Arthur Ashe in 1973 and 1974, captures life on the pro tennis circuit better than any other book I've read. The tour has changed a lot since then, of course, but his description of week-to-week ups and downs (most weeks, of course, end with a loss) holds up well. There are plenty of flashes of Ashe's political consciousness as well, but his frank discussion of his agnosticism doesn't quite match the spirituality he describes in later books.
