Summary: Sister, Mother, Girl.
Review: Being a strong, independent woman is nothing to be ashamed of and this book proudly and effectively proves this point. From the tribes of women warriors who battled and won male enemies, to modern day cartoon warriors, this book covered every aspect of what it means to be a powerful woman. A modern day history book, that is easy and fun to read. Be sure to purchase this for your daughters, your girlfriends, and those needing a reminder of what it means to be secure with your gender.

Summary: Women's history 101--Amazons and then some
Review: Don't get me wrong. I'm not afraid to use the "F" word when describing myself. Yes, feminist. But the goddess knows how boring it is when you get stuck listening to women of a certain type drone on about what victims women have been throughout history. Sure, women have plenty to be sore about, puh-len-ty, but celebrating our strong sisters seems oh so much more productive than rehashing a centuries-old laundry list of transgressions. Which is the thing I like so much about this book.

In a time when we have so few heroes or heroines (who aren't wearing NBA numbers or midriffs and belly rings) Women Warriors tells the stories of plenty of gals you wouldn't mind taking a little inspiration from, let alone meeting over a cold one at the bar down the street. The book features true ass-kicking warriors (Joan of Arc being the most famous, plus plenty of sword-wielders you've probably never heard of like Tomoe Gozen), but also intellectual and philosophical warriors like Eleanor Roosevelt and Indira Ghandi. All this without ever taking itself too seriously. Which is a credit to the author, who could convince even the most stalwart of feminist academicians that the Power Puff Girls and Buffy deserve a place in history next to the Amazons.

Summary: A Very Important Book!
Review: I was so thrilled when I found this book! There are so many books written about famous male fighters, that it is about time we get to talk about some of the famous female fighters throughout time! I was very surprised that I had never heard of a lot of these women who had accomplished so much. I will be sending a copy of this book to my young cousin so the names of women like Boudicca and Lakshmibai can now become a part of her vocabulary.

Summary: Women Warriors
Review: It's well written, attractively packaged - an excellent gift book for teenage girls, even boys. I'd like to share comments from my 15-year-old grandnephew, Miguel Jose Pe from Montreal, Canada, who was one of my gift recipients : "I just finished the Joan of Arc chapter which was really interesting. Skimming through the book, it's smooth, colorful and most importantly really easy to read. It's also fun because you lose yourself in the stories. It's a great reference tool for students. Obviously the book encourages female empowerment but there is also a hidden call for youth empowerment, which I thought was pretty cool. This is the type of book that should be studied in high schools. A couple of athletes I thought could have been included: Maria Mutola (800m runner) and michelle wie...." That pretty much sums up various comments received from friends and customers at our West L.A. Carwash store. Congratulations, Teena! Good job!

Summary: Cool book, not just for women
Review: Like many guys, I appreciate animated action series and I am an avid reader of comics and history books. No doubt, because of these passions, I have become a fan of strong female characters. Warriors combines all of what I like into a nice package: colorful illustrations, world history, women with supernatural powers (Lozen was my favorite), and some very cool action sequences. I'm buying copies for every woman in my family.

Summary: The Truth About Women
Review: Listen, I've always known that women kick tail, and this book proves it. Forget about Xena and Wonderwoman, let's get to the real action with Lozen and the Truong Sisters. Let's find out about a day in the life of Lakshmibai and Boudicca and recognize that feminism isn't a NEW phenomenon, it's part of the world order. (It's just that some people decided to leave these fierce women out of the text books because frankly, they put the men to shame.) Apeles does a great job of including vital historical data and mixing it with modern text, a technique which makes the book appealing as a conversation piece. There's no heavy handed "women are better than men" thing in this book, just straight facts about a legion of warriors who deserve to be known. Excellent!

Summary: Girl Kick A**
Review: This book covers contemporary/fictional and historical images of powerful women which will appeal to both young and older audiences. The tone is light, humorous but peaks your curiosity about what life might have been like for many of these heroines from centuries past.
It would be great if warrior names such as Lakshmibai and the Trung sisters were as recognizable as Gensghis Khan or Spartacus. I would especially recommend getting a copy of this book for young women in junior high/high school who are not exposed to powerful images/facts of women warriors in history. Great illustrations!

Summary: Wonderful, informative, want more!
Review: Wonderful read for all ages, and genders. I bought one copy then went back for two more - this is an inspiring book brought to you by an author who has an interesting insight into a greatly underexplored area. "Pregnant But Fierce" is my favorite, but don't take my word for it - get a copy for yourself!
