Rating: Summary: Women who thought they could and did! Review: This is a gem of a book and would be most useful in anyone's library who has a sincere interest in the study of women in the Bible. There have been many books written with a focus on biblical women but Kimbrough brings a fresh approach with her focus on self-esteem. Despite the social marginalization of biblical women, Kimbrough is able to lift out of scripture something in which is worthy to note about each character. She presents both Jew and Gentile women found in OT and NT writings. What I like about this book so much is the level of scholarship that is evident. The book has sufficient content to use as a resource for a Bible study, women's group discussion, or preliminary exegesis on a particular biblical character. Kimbrough addresses 37 women, with summaries that highlight the significant aspects of their life and work. Kimbrough's has a gift for writing and imagination that allows the reader to experience the text "come alive before your eyes." This book is very inspirational, honest, and refreshing in its approach and is useful for ministers and laypersons alike.
