Summary: Fantastic book! A great biography of a southern demagogue
Review: This book is so well written I read it the same night it was given to me. The writing is almost addictive, it is brilliantly narrated and the subject matter is just as interesting. As a reader interested in Huey Long, I decided to read about some of his contemporaries and Talmadge is certainly one of the more interesting ones. This is a great book (and a good addition to any library). Biographies are my favorite books to read, and this is one of my favorite books. The first four chapters, however, are a bit slow. The book really picks up steam when Talmadge starts his first run for Agriculture commissioner. The first chapters did drag a bit. Fantastic book, four stars just because of the beginning. Highly readable, funny, narrative. Worth the price.

Summary: Brilliant Work on Southern Demagouge!
Review: This work is a must read for anyone interested in southern history, or in demagougery in the U.S., or in southern politics! The author does an excellent job -- in a very interesting and readable narrative -- of truly capturing the colorful Eugene Talmadge, four times elected Governor of Georgia! He captures the real Gene, from Talmadge's red suspenders, to his plants at political rallies, to his outlandish, dogmatic ways -- such as the time he caused the Univ. of Ga. to lose its accreditation. As a teacher and historian, this book is one of the very best I have ever read!
