Review: A wonderful book about a real baseball player. A real player that everyone looked up to. It truly is a shame that they all seem to be forgetting Stan Musial. Jerry Lansche does a fabulous job at telling just the facts. No embellishment here. No controversies, no scandals, no clubhouse brawls. Stan was indeed the Man! From beginning to end he captures the era with the precision one would expect from a seasoned author. As with Joe Dimaggio, where have you been Stan Musial? The game misses you! Of note, I do have an autographed copy of this book. That makes it very special to me. Great effort! I can't wait for his next book, whatever it may be.

It follows Musial's career, year-by-year, through its ups and downs (mostly ups) from the time he broke in with the St. Louis baseball Cardinals in September, 1941, through his retirement in 1963. Full of stories and anecdotes, Stan the Man Musial is the most complete biography ever written on baseball's "Shining Knight." Lansche's second book, Glory Fades Away: The Nineteenth Century World Series Rediscovered, is out of print, but can be located with some difficulty through mail-order catalogues.
