Summary: Stellar content, not-so-stellar printing
Review: As a given, the quality of the content is unsurpassed. Even to this day, Shakespeare must surely remain as one of the finest craftsmen (if not the finest) of the modern English language, and all English-speakers would do well to harken to the Bard.

Anyway, this printing (hardcover) is very attractive, at a distance. The leather (if it's genuine) is not of the highest quality, the pages have a tendency to stick together upon first opening of the book, a result of which is the rare white streak in the text. On a more positive note, the glossary at the back is of frequent use, though it lacks some words esoteric to this modern, American reader. I haven't really read their notes that also come in the back, so I can't comment on them.

However, the fact that one can obtain the complete works of Shakespeare, hardcover in leather, for a reasonable price, itself makes this edition desireable.

Summary: The paper smells nice.
Review: How dare you question the master's work! Shakespeer is nmot on trial--you are on trial becasue he is the best.

I think the key is that everyone rips him off--Ethan Hawke, Mel Gibson, stanley tucci, and Alley Mac Beel all copy him with their films.

SO buy this book and be edified.

Summary: The Cheap Shakespeare
Review: Shakespeare is Shakespeare. We all know that. This is some of the finest literature ever written. But this edition is lousey. The cover is very cheap imitation black leather and yes, the pages do all stick together. An even bigger problem is the fact that the text is printed in really really small letters. This makes reading a chore instead of the pleasure it should be. Some more analitical and biographical essays would have been nice too. This book is convenient only because it collects all of Shakespeare's works together in one volume. But the descriminating reader would be better off spending a few more dollars and purchasing the Riverside Shakespeare.

Summary: Ah, Shakespeare..what more needs to be said?
Review: Sure, the Unabridged William Shakespeare tends be a bit unwieldy, and the text a bit small, but I suppose it would be as it contains everything the playwright and poet has written.

Having those two minor negatives in mind, this is still a very nice version to have sitting on your bookshelf. It has everything in one package and it's easy to pull down, flip to any page and start reading.

A few excellent features of the this volume are the index of all the characters from every play, a full glossary of Elizabethan English, notes on plays and even the first line of every sonnet for easy reference.

It's worth it to pick this one up and to enjoy at leisure.

Summary: Highly Recommend
Review: This is a beautifully leather bound book. I was more than pleased with the quality of this book. Was even more amazed at the price. I was not expecting much based on the price because I expected something of this quality to cost much more.

Summary: Excellent Book.
Review: Well, I guess I'm allowed to disagree. Ok, these unabridged versions get a bit long, but what could be better than this? All the wit, drama, pathos, occasional slapstick and thought that make up the enigma called "Shakespeare." The more I read about the man and of the man, the more I want, and this book delivered nicely.

Summary: Good for students
Review: Well, I'm not about to comment on the quality of the writing; I think history has decided that's pretty top-notch. This particular edition is good. It has all the plays & sonnets, a semi-helpful glossary, plus an index of characters and first lines of sonnets. Especially helpful for academic study of Shakespeare are the notes regarding differences in editions of the text (in other words, which quarto or folio this edition pulls from in a particular passage).

The paperback version has lasted me, my brother, and a fellow English major for about eight years, if that's any testament to the durability of the binding. I should mention that it fell apart into thirds about five years back, with the surprise bonus that it's much lighter to carry to class when you only need a third of the book as opposed to the whole volume. Only disadvantage: not much room in the margin for notes.

Summary: "A Shakespearean's Delight"
Review: William George Clark and William Aldis Wright's version "The Unabridged William Shakespeare" has been diligently indentified with the traditional Cambridge edition, making this a profoundly reputable collection; and they have corrected faults found in the earlier texts to present a lucid and comparitively superior collection of Shakespeare's works. All of Shakespeare's plays and verse, along with a complete anthology of his sonnets, a glossary of Elizabethan English, an in-depth appendix containing fotenotes, and a comprehensive index of characters will be found here. This volume is a must have.
