The author takes a fascinating, in-depth look at the cultural succession of the popular image of the Virgin Mary by the popular image of Queen Elizabeth I. The depth of her scholarship is evident in the work, and yet it is presented in a style that is easy to follow. I look forward to reading her forthcoming work on the genre of Romance in the Renaissance.
