Rating: Summary: Fascinating Review: A fascinating book on an extraordinary life. Alice Pike Barney (1857-1928) was an artist of considerable talent, a socialite with considerable conscience. She was loved by Henry Morton Stanley, but spurned him. She married unhappily twice, but flourished as a widow and divorcee. Her Studio House and Sylvan Theater still grace Washington, but she left for Hollywood in the 1920s and died there. Jean Kling's book has good prints of her art, an insightful account of her life. I recommend it.
