Summary: Great story of how he became famous, his rise to the top
Review: I enjoyed the book and feel that we now know a bit more about Richard beyond the sequined tops and oiled legs. We got a good look at how his business came to be and that he loves his mother and brother, hates his father. I now feel that the pain he felt growing up was the result of being called "sissy" far more than being obese. I always thought that he related with our obese plight because he 'had been there, done that', now I question that. His "fat picture" looks little different than he does today. Richard is a brilliant marketer and has capitalized on his talent for helping others, however, I question whether he truely felt the same pain that the obese feel. His pain was great, but it was the pain of being different, odd, a-sexual but not obese and stuck in a body you hate, he is stuck in a life that he hates. Today, Richard isn't a hard body vision of health. His skin looks bad, his hair is unhealthy looking and he oils himself to look shiney. I think that Richard should walk a bit more of the walk. If an obese person looks at Richard as the model of what they want to be like when they reach their goal weight, little wonder so many of his followers remain obese and those that do lose gain it back, only to have to buy the next version of his plan. I want a role model who looks healthy and leads a normal, quality full life, not one that he can't talk about. There is no way he only has dogs and a housekeeper in his personal life. Why won't he tell us what he really is like, why be the foder for David Letterman if he is straight, why not come out and be honest. He is hiding from the demons that haunt him and this book all to clearly shows us that, or doesn't...which is the problem. At least Suzan Powter laid her cards on the table, alcohol, etc.... that trouble her. Richard gives us an autobiography that leaves more questions than you had before reading it!

Summary: great book-very entertaining
Review: I enjoyed this book. My favorite parts of the book were about his childhood, and all of the different diets that he tried. I do have to agree with both of the other reviews written. Richard only skimmed the surface of his private life now, not answering the question we all have on our minds. While also not really explaining why he came up with the title for this book.
I wished for a more in depth transformation story from fat to fit. Still, this book was entertaining and give's the reader more to love about Richard Simmons!

Summary: Okay
Review: I purchased this book thinking that I was going to get an intimate look inside the life of Mr. Simmons but instead all he gives you are accounts of his battle with weight loss throughout the book so far. The book started off pretty interesting with the lives of his brother, mother, and father and his interesting upbringing but it doesn't tell you much about his personality, fears, desires, goals, etc.. Hopefully the book gets more interesting as I get closer to finishing it, whenever that will be.

Summary: One of a kind!
Review: I read Richard's book to learn more about him. Now I feel as though I understand him better. He has inspired so many people to lose weight and smile. Richard has always remained true to his style dispite his detractors, for this I admire him. I had the chance to meet him and he is exactly the same in person as he is on TV, etc... I am inspired by his drive and passion for helping people lose weight, it is my goal to follow his lead and that of the many other great motivators we have, and to do my part to help America get healthy! 75% of America is overweight and that is just not acceptable anymore! We have too many tools available to help beat the battle. Richard brought the epidemic to the forfront of America's mind and has done so much to help so many. Congrats Richard. Great to read how happy you are and how you love your life! Carpe Diet! Julia

Summary: What a Character!
Review: If you are a Richard Simmons fan, you'll love this book. You'll learn less about his Deal a Meal eating program than you will about how it all began. Richard is a study in entrepreneurial spirit. You'll laugh along with his stories --everything from being a child cardinal to street-selling pralines in his home town of New Orleans to becoming fitness king, all told in Richard's fun (if a little fiction) way!

Summary: This wasn't just a book, it is an experience.
Review: Richard Simmons has written of his life experiences in this new book. This is not just another "diet" book, it is an "must read" for every overweight person who someday hopes to find a secret to release them from their pain. Richard found his secret and so can you...every overweight person can identify with the stories in this book. It is delightful, happy, sad, and most of all truthful enlightenment.

Summary: OPEN, HONEST, HEARTWARMING
Review: This book was like looking into the life of Richard Simmons, and how he bacame the man he is today. His openess, honesty and sincerity are evident through-out the book. I laughed, I cried, and most importantly, I identified with his weight loss ups and downs. Here is someone who has 'been there', not a size 2 supermodel who has never had to carry an extra pound in their life! I had the privelege of meeting Richard yesterday in Boston, and there truly is no artifice there. What you see is what you get, and all I can say is: God Bless Richard Simmons! Read the book!

Summary: Stumbled on a Treasure in this one
Review: this is a well written book that has it high and lows as it takes you from his childhood up to current day. Richard Simmons has talent writing and was able to keep my interested except for a certain parts. For this book the only real problem i see was him going off subject. He was telling about his life but every other chapter was about his brother or his dad getting into trouble where he wasent ever involved. He really makes you care about what happened in his life which was a good aspect of the book. That was one of the main reasons i contiuned reading. I would of gave this book more stars if he didnt go off subject so much. So in conclusion if you have some free time on your hands and want to read a well written book about richard simmons this is the book for you.
