Rating: Summary: Building a Mystery Is Some Kind of Beautiful Review: Hard to believe, reading these reviews of a book published two years ago, its still causing all this angry outporing. kind of interesting, really. I don't see other music biographies getting this kind of attention. Must be some kind of book and the reason I bought it. I kept reading about Uwe and wondered, Uwe who? What did Uwe do? Now, I know. And, if you get your own copy, you will, too =)... I lit a candle for him at church today..... The good thing about the book is that it really is the best thing on the market about Sarah. Its not a perfect book; but, after reading it, you'll learn Sarah is not a perfect star either, thank goddess. I've heard rumors there will be an update edition in time for xmas so, maybe the rest of the story will be told and we will all be given a better record of lilith fair which in all fairness was just starting when the book was published. The author's got a really breezy and engaging style, very charming and funny. I like it. I like her reverence for music and her knowledge is staggering. So, I give it a five because I personally don't care what anyone says, I think it's quite neato.
Rating: Summary: A Fairily Decent Bio---Enjoy Review: I found some small comfort reading Judith Fitzgerald's Building a Mystery, a biography of Sarah McLachlan. I have seen Sarah over thirty times and I must admit, the good author certainly captures the essence of her personality and the atmosphere surrounding her lovely rise to the top. The author is respectful and, given the fact she received no cooperation from Sarah's management, Ms. Fitzgerald has written an excellent overview of Sarah's career up until the final two years of Lilith. In other words, before she became a househod name. Readers will discover interesting snippets (i.e., Sarah's fave food is swordfish, she conquered a nail-biting compulsion, and she hides her statues and awards because she's so humble). There is some stuff at the beginning that really bugged me at first. Then, after I finished the book, I sort of understand why it's there. It isn't out of place, after all, in other words. I am an aspiring singer myself (choral) and, in this, it was invaluable. I'm not sure I needed to know about AS and DK having a brawl over Sarah. Still, all in all, everything falls into place describing the brest singer's rise to the top of the word! Good work! More pix would have made me give it a five :-). Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Great Sarah 411 Review: Lots of good Sarah 411 here but for an unauthorized bio, i thight there would be more dirt than there is. Everybody knows Sarah never was stalked so, what's the deal with that, huh? Can see she had a nosejob if you look at her pics too. But, it's the only really good book on Sarah but it's not a five stars book either. I would have to say it's worth it to read Doris McLachlan's interview with the author where you learn about Sarah as a child and teenager and how she's such a good person. Oh, and birth mother, judy? She soulnds alot like Sarah, so that's curious to me. (I am adopted, too.) I wonder if this answers other people's questions about their real parents too. I'm rambling, soory, but i think it's pretty decent, and not a waist of money at all. You won't be disappointed (unless you're a psycho muhahahahahahaha!!!!!!) J/k!
Rating: Summary: A clever mystery Review: Okay, I believe that you had no right to bash anyone that wrote a review disliking this book. Yes, you have a right to your opinion, but you have NO RIGHT to tell people that they're stupid/stalkers because they disliked this book. People have made valid points as to their feelings about this book. It's just an opinion. Maybe, on your next review you should stick to your critique on the book and not the people who critiqued the book. Hey, thats just an idea. I am personally offended and hurt by your personal remarks towards me and other reviewers. Who's sorry now? You should be.
Rating: Summary: from a devoted Fumbler : Review: the book was very confusing to me at the beginning with Fitz driving driving down to Halifax in search of Sarah's birth mother. the whole part was unnecessary and a waste of paper if you ask me. other than that, i guess the book is an ok read. the writer does give interpretations of Sarah's lyrics and things like that. She also gives what the critics wrote about Sarah throughout her career so far.
Rating: Summary: Not that bad Review: The first chapter of this book is absolutely boring, thanks to Judith rambling on about travelling to Halifax. Anyway, I found that Judith didn't write enough about Sarah's life before she released "Touch" in 1988, but you can't get everything you want, right? I also found that Judith wrote far too much Sarah's supposed stalker and not enough about the process Sarah went through to write her beautiful songs. I did enjoy Judith's comments about Terry McBride (Sarah's manager) because I have found him to be a bit of a money grubber and a control freak when it comes to Sarah. When I originally reviewed this book I gave it 1 star, but I've re-read the book and it's quite obvious Judith loves Sarah as a musician, but that she didn't want to give a biased view of the life and career of Sarah McLachlan.

Rating: Summary: Poorly Written Review: This book borders on unreadable. Rather than write a biography about McLachlan, Fitzgerald writes an account of her own 'road trip' to discover the truth about McLachlan. I'm certainly not opposed to that format for a pop biography -- if the author and the supporting characters are dynamic and interesting and the text itself clearly written. Alas, Building a Mystery provides neither. A disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Utter Crap Review: This book is so warped. It reads like a highschooler's attempt at fiction... if only the author had some sort of FACTUAL BASIS behind her conjecture... but no. In this book we have what appears to be Ms Fitzgerald's jealous ramblings. I will have to admit that this is the first bio I've read where the author treats her subject with such disdain... it's rather suprising because it took me off-guard. I expected to learn about Sarah, not about Ms Fitzgerald and her unrealistic, "gossipy" blather.
Rating: Summary: Utter Crap Review: This book is the biggest piece of crap I've ever read - and I read a lot! How it ever got published is the real mystery! Don't waste your time on it.
