Rating: Summary: Emotional Roller Coaster Review: "A rock and a hard Place" is the emotional story of a little boy's destructive life's battles. Anthony is the child of parents who could care less about anyone other than themselves. They scarcely feed him, dress him carelessly, best him senseless, and have no problems with him being pedophile by close friends. A child alone in New York City, with nowhere to refugee to but the dangerous City subways, Struggling to stand & face the life he has, Where day after day is a lonely hell to him. His best friend is the only person who knows about his situation, and is the only one Anthony can depend on. Times get worse for Tony so much so that he decides his the only way for relief is to kill himself. Scared and determined, he call a suicide prevention hotline, say that " I don't know if I called because I needed to talk to someone who care for me, or Because I wanted someone to talk me out of it." It was that call that would forever change his life. From that night on he'd finally be safe and secure. As a few months pass for what he'd call "Paradise", he finds out he's contracted the AIDS virus from being molested by his mother's friend. As his health begins to deteriorate within the following months, he only seems to be happy. Not because he knows that he's going to finally be at peace, but because he finally got the Love, and Family he and every other child deserves. A fourteen-year-old boy with amazing knowledge, an astonishing story to tell, and so much sophistication, Anthony Godby Johnson is a role model and inspiration 4 people of every age. I recommend "A rock and a hard Place" to readers of all sorts, you understand after reading this book that, a broken heart equals a another lesson learned, and mending it can be a process that (for better or worse) can make or break you.

Rating: Summary: THIS STORY IS A COMPLETE HOAX!!!!!! Review: BEWARE FOLKS YOU ARE GETTING SCAMED!!This child has never been shown to exist and indeed many investigators have found there to be no such person! The poster who wrote: This book is for those interested in hoaxes, sentimental pity, and the deep strangeness that the human mind is capable of. It may also appeal to a few fans of sick humor. In any case, there is nothing healthy or honest about this book on any level, and nobody connected with it has anything to be proud of. was right on target. (...) But here is brief snippet below: "Consider some of the similarities between his case and that of Kaycee Nicole, a proven hoax: 1) the writer is a young person who writes inspiring stories and correspondence of overcoming great personal odds and grave medical challenges; 2) the writer claims to be much younger than their writing would indicate; 3) nobody has verifiably met either writer in person: only by telephone, e-mail, or postal mail; 4) the writer (and defenders) use the "right to privacy" argument to defend their anonymity; 5) the writer uses terrible secrets (i.e., sexual abuse, etc.) as part of their story; 6) basic factual details of their stories do not check out or are found to be false; 7) the best suspects for continuing the hoax is their mother, who has pretended to be the writer; and 8) due to emotional manipulation and the subject matter, those taken by the hoax tend to be very defensive. They have so much emotional investment in believing the hoax that it is psychologically easier to ignore the troubling facts than to admit the deep betrayal." IT'S A HOAX PEOPLE WAKE THE FARK UP. if it were not by now the child would come forward. 'He' has not.
Rating: Summary: Hoax? Review: For the person that said it's a hoax. I have talked to Tony Johnson via e-mail and IM on AIM. He has a website - you can find it if you look. He lives in NY city and several people have met him in person. Ya dweeb.
Rating: Summary: People who can't bear Tony's story need to believe it's fake Review: I've emailed with Tony, and believe me, he didn't sound like a "perfect angel". He grew angry when I asked, jokingly, if he "was real." It was exactly the kind of anger you might expect from a teenager who was abused as badly as he was.
Tony's story is absolutely terrible. His abuse is almost unfathomable. For this reason a lot of people can't tolerate it. They need to believe his story is fake.
As yourself this. . . why would anyone write a work of fiction and then pretend it's a memoir? To make more sales? Come on, the writer of A Rock and a Hard Place hardly became rich. In fact, a book with such a terrible story would probably do better as a work of fiction (it's easier for people to tolerate that way)
Anyhow, as I've said, I emailed with Tony and I'm pretty sure it was him. It was a couple of years ago. Does anyone know if he's still alive? When the book ended, he was suffering from full blown AIDS and had just had his left leg amputated because of the disease. There's a good chance he's no longer alive.
Tony, if you are still alive, please believe that I found your story TRULY inspirational.
Rating: Summary: Sad Hoax Review: Sadly, this book is a complete hoax. Tony doesn't even exist. Read Tad Friend's amazing expose in The New Yorker. But don't invest any money or emotion on this con.
Rating: Summary: People need to believe in something... but not this Review: These people who have "e-mailed" and "Chatted" with this person are gullable and have no life.
Think about it. This "Tony" has had AIDS for over 12 years? He has suffered stroke, immune problems, amputated body parts, syphilis and so on...
If that were the case, he would be DEAD. AIDS is a serious illnedd that until 6-7 years ago, most people were handed a death ticket.
Aparently there have been people looking for birth certificates, people trying to contact police and correctional services about his father. Nobody can find out anything.
This is a book that is FICTIONAL. It should only represent something to people. That this fictitious character can go through so much and still survive.
People.... you need to believe in yourselves and know that if you're not starving every day, if you're not dying from a life threatening desiese, you've got it made. Be happy with what you have, and if you think life sucks, CHANGE IT.
As a final note
Tony himself hints in his book that one can't always believe what one reads: "Charlotte, the spider in Charlotte's Web, knew what she was talking about when she said that humans were gullible, that they believed anything they saw in print."
If this person is real and suddenly dies, there would be a death certificate... and I doubt that anyone could get a copy, beacuse Tony is not real.
If he is, than may I be forgiven for being so cirital
Rating: Summary: Emotional Roller Coaster Review: This is one of the best Memoir/Autobiographies I have read in a while. The open and honest reflection of child abuse and sexual abuse reminds me a great deal of another book I read titled "Nightmares Echo". The courage and determination of these books astound me. I rate this book highly as a must read for anyone over the age of 15 do to the content of the book. It is powerful.
