woman. At every step of her various experiences she describes her thoughts and feelings in great depth, so that the reader is pulled into what is happening.
It is great fun to travel with Gloria and be a true part of what she feels, sees, learns all along. I felt compelled to read the book through to the end - I can't imagine putting it down any sooner.
I recommend this book highly - it is a "must" on your reading list.

Review: "Shalom in my heart, salaam on my lips" - dieses Buch ist ein wirklich sagenhafter Reisebericht. Es ist das Erlebnis einer sehr bewundernswerten Frau, die ein großes Abenteuer gewagt hat. Gloria beschreibt sehr genau wie sie sich in der Zeit, in der sie in Marokko lebte, fühlte und lädt so den Leser dazu ein, sich in die einzelnen Situationen zu denken. Durch Glorias Art zu Schreiben, fühlt man sich mitten im Geschehen. Es macht großen Spaß, sich mit Gloria auf die Reise zu begehen. Erst wenn diese abgeschlossen ist, kann man das Buch zur Seite legen. Wer das Buch nicht liest, ist selber Schuld.

Review: I couldn't go to sleep until I finished this book. The author's heartfelt writing transforms the reader so that it's easy to become her and experience the smells, the gut feelings and dizziness of the hilarious and frightening adventures she faced as a Jewish American educational ambassador in Morocco. It's a marvelous accomplishment.

Review: I loved it. I savored it. The adventures of an educated, Western jewish woman offering love, dignity and learning while, alone, deftly wading through gritty to funny moments
, all the while just a sound bite away from a hateful tirade. Some eloquent passages create a mind's eye movie of breathtaking views, intriguing traditions, market life, and desperate survival strategies Moroccans endure. There's even a recipe, such a deal! A good read for teens, too.

I could not put the book down and it read like a 'movie' - very visual and quick. I am very glad Gloria stayed alive and was able to report all her adventures to us so we toocvould experience the real world without the terror she lived through. Jo-Ann Jacobson
