Summary: Being owned by one of "US"!
Review: What is "RESTAVEC"? What is "SLAVERY"? Is there a link between the two that defines what they really call it in Haiti,"DOMESTIC?" We would have never known if it wasn't for Jean Robert Cadet, "BOB". I dared myself to cry while reading this book. You do not bring sadness to such literature that is nothing but the past. But you can't laugh either. To this day it still exists. Children of wealthy men outside of their mariages are being given away by the same men who fathered them. To know that you are part of both wealth and misery is enough to make you want to write. It is almost like saying there is a link between "SATAN" and our GOD. Which of course we know is not true. Yes BOB's story will touch millions, but it'll continue to touch the author the most. Simply because they are a lot of children in Haiti walking the shoes that he once wore. Robert Cadet has not forgotten his childhood. It is not his past. This is his life. This is part of who he is, which is what makes him so strong. He need not be ashamed of who he is. His children need not be embarrassed by who their father is. He has grown to make a difference in his life. "BOB", you are one courageous man. I just wish that there were many like you that weren't afraid of facing reality. With your touchy story, you have preserved your own past and built the future. Please continue to amaze me with your intellectual way of dealing with reality. How would they know where you are at if they have never been where you have been? Needless to say, they'll never understand where you are coming from.
