Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wonderful account of true heroes Review: There are a lot of books about firefighters out there nowadays, and I read many of them. This was by far the best. One man's account of joining the FDNY in New York at the end of the sixties and his rise to battalion chief. Adventures, heartbreak, miracle rescues, heartstopping action, gallows humor... this book has it all, as seen through the eyes of one man who is truly one of "The Brave." George Pickett was friends with many of the men who died on September 11th (which occurred shortly after he retired after many years of distinguished service) which makes this story even more poignant. A great read for anyone who wants to know more about the life of NY firefighters.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Reader's review Review: This book will leave you breathless from beginning to end. The very real story of a very real and very heroic firefighter who rose in the ranks of the NYFD prior to 9/11 on the lower east side of New York. Many members of this ladder and engine company lost their lives fighting in the great 9/11 tragedy; the book tells us where they lived, loved and came from during the early years. Pickett is a highly respected fire official, who rose in the ranks and is eloquent in describing his experiences. A not-to-miss book. This is not a child's book, but tells it as it was. When your heart is not pumping as you read, it may be breaking--a very human true tale.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Brave is a must read! Review: WOW!! The Brave is full of action from start to finish and would make a great movie! The Brave keeps your attention and makes it hard to set the book down. It gives a great picture to how challenging life is as a NYFD firefighter. The storey is compelling and truthful and I'm sure will be around for a long time. Congratulations to George Pickett on this GREAT book!
