Summary: A powerful denouncement of war
Review: When I was in Soviet Army our officers did not allow us to read the articles from this book in magazines. It was illegal. I was happy to read this book I wanted to read long time ago. My uncle was killed in Afghanistan in 1980 and it was one of the first casualties in city of Kharkov, Ukraine. My two cousins returned back from there in 1984 and 1986. And they were crazy we thought. I had to go there too, but one officer saved me. My close friend was there. In my family Afghanistan was associated with tragedy we had. And this book gave me enormous source of thoughts. It describes the war and Soviet Army as is. Also it describes very well the life and fighting conditions in Afghanistan and it can be useful for professionals.
